Need PC advice

submitted by Thyhorrorcosmic103 to AskUpgoat 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 05:59:26 ago (+2/-2)     (AskUpgoat)

I need suggestions on what to do now that my Norton subscription is up. Should I just pay the dollar for another year, or is there better software I should be using. Asking for Windows 10.

I can only offer un-PC advice which is that you don't need Norton or any antivirus at all.

So its not really necessary for windows 10 to have antivirus software?

[ - ] Empire_of_the_Mind 4 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:40:25 ago (+4/-0)

It depends on what you're doing but in most cases no not really.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:45:07 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks for the advice, I kind of assumed it was unnecessary. But I didn't want to fuck my shit up by just removing Norton. I only use the internet for Voat and play the occasional Steam game. I'll just be careful if I start doing shady shit on the interwebz, I guess.

Honestly, I'm of the school of thought that third party antivirus programs are completely unnecessary- superfluous at best and harmful for performance at worst.

The best policy IMO is preventative protection, like using a decent browser with good adblock/script-blocking plugins. Subscribe to a bunch of filters.

Windows itself is spyware, but with that said, Microshaft has come a long way with its stock anti-virus protection. As long as the firewall and Defender are enabled, you're good to go.

I'm also of the school of thought that if you do get infeted for any reason, you simply nuke the drives and start over.

He is fucking with you, or is mentally retarded himself.

Your computer is screwed without any antivirus.

Interesting... Now I don't know what to believe. Unfortunately this is not an area of expertise for me and I am solely reliant on you niggers for help on this one. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if others add to my inquiry.

Try /r/Antivirus on Reddit. There are many AV experts there that will tell you what I said.

Haha reddit.

Of course

[ - ] Spaceman84 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:07:42 ago (+0/-0)

He's an actual moron and needs AV software.

[ - ] Her0n 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 10:37:08 ago (+1/-0)

Lol ok.

I haven't used antivirus of any type for two decades now and I have used the same patchwork PC for the past twelve years. It never had an issue, stop lying.

I do plenty of shady shit, used to buy lsd off silk road and still had zero issues.

[ - ] ThisGuy 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 11, 2022 04:00:17 ago (+0/-0)

And your PC is a syphilitic nigger dick of PCs.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:04:41 ago (+1/-0)

You can generally get away with anti-malware suites.

Norton causes more problems than it potentially solves. If you are hell bent on AV, get BitDefender.

Honestly just run malwarebytes and spyhunter if you are in the deep from trawling TOR.

Just be vigilant and use adblock plugins, ublock, fcontainer, httpseverywhere, IPFS companion, shodan, VPNs, etc.

[ - ] Spaceman84 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:06:39 ago (+2/-0)

Are you a retard? Do you download shit indiscriminately? If yes, then you need AV software. If you're not a drooling moron or careless, then no. In 30 years I've only needed it twice. Once when I was a dumb kid and once when I clicked the wrong torrent link and didn't notice until after I had run the installer (I may have been inebriated). Formatted OS drive, reinstalled Windows, changed passwords, done. AV software would probably have caught it, or I could have just paid attention to what I was doing.

Switch to Linux or you are a cuck. Seriously stop using Bill Gates pedophile operating system

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 07:38:51 ago (+0/-0)

Quite the dilemma you have put me in. Oh whatever shall I do...

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 10:36:22 ago (+2/-0)

Install os/2 out of spite!

[ - ] observation1 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:30:41 ago (+1/-0)

People saying you don't need av, as long as you don't go to whatever sites, are kind of nuts. I used to think that too. Its not true. Microsoft products are vulnerable to shit. Linux is the best answer, but after that if you insist on windows you should pay for an antiviral scanner. Pick any of them except AVG and Kaspersky. Not because they're bad but because they're backstabbing traitors.

You would think with all the smartass insults I’ve gotten simply for asking this question that there wouldn’t be any disagreement on the subject.

[ - ] Kozel 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:21:26 ago (+1/-0)

I've ran without an antivirus for like 5, or maybe 10 years. I don't remember. Shit gets past AV all the time. I remember some Russian dude had a "clintons.exe" that nothing even picked up on virustotal until two weeks later after I had submitted it for analysis all the retards picked it up. I also remember using a HIPS and having it block firefox from running random shit when I visited a website.

Anyway, my suggestion for you:

Uninstall norton now. And never install norton again. If your dick ever gets itchy to spend money on a mcafee subscription or bonzibuddy or whatever, look here:

https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/

If your antivirus isn't doing better than windows defender that comes for free with windows then you are a clueless faggot for buying it and need to stop squandering your money.

[ - ] Her0n 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 10:39:36 ago (+2/-1)

You serious?

No, not at all.

I don't use any anti-malware or anti virus scams.

I've bought countless pads of LSD, been on many (((forbidden))) sites, and torrent all the movies and games I want. Never had an issue, nor any warnings.

All Norton ever did for me was fuck up any gaming experience I was having when it started scanning.

[ - ] beece 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 07:58:18 ago (+1/-0)

I switched to Linux, suggest you do as well. Otherwise, I'd have an antivirus. There are free ones you know. When I had windows, used either AVG or Avast.

[ - ] Ozark 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:21:08 ago (+1/-0)

Are you for real?

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 3 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:29:23 ago (+4/-1)

Does it sound like a fucking joke?

Edit: So no response, just a smug question and a downvoat?

[ - ] Ozark 2 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:38:04 ago (+2/-0)

I didn't dv you. I honestly thought you were joking, turns out you're just a neendlessly aggresive idiot.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:42:38 ago (+1/-0)

It was dv'd within 10 seconds of posting, so I apologize for my assumption.

That being said, you are still being smug and not answering the question. So fuck off, faggot.

[ - ] Ozark 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:49:46 ago (+1/-0)

You don't need Norton.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 06:58:35 ago (+0/-0)

Another user suggests I don't need to replace it either, do you agree?

[ - ] Ozark 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 07:11:55 ago (+1/-0)

Yes, just use a secure browser.

[ - ] UncleDoug 1 point 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:07:38 ago (+1/-0)

just a smug question and a downvoat?

There are kike shills that go around and DV every post, chillax and stop ripping on good users.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 [op] 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:15:34 ago (+0/-0)

I was referring to my reply.

And nobody asked for your input, nigger.

It was between me and Ozark and obviously we moved on.

Lick muh dick

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 16:14:47 ago (+0/-0)

I've only used Windows Defender for years and had no problems.

[ - ] ghetto_shitlord 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 16:11:22 ago (+0/-0)

Use defender and don't be an idiot. Problem solved.

[ - ] Glowbright 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:58:57 ago (+0/-0)

Norton is crap and offers no protection over free alternatives. If you insist on running Windows I would recommend Windows Defender + Malwarebytes + BitDefender

[ - ] Prairie 0 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 11:08:05 ago (+0/-0)

First, choose a better subject. Second, ditch the third-party crap, and possibly Windows. Use an ad blocker like uBlock Origin, and NoScript. You can have Windows do an offline scan, to avoid any rootkits from hiding themselves in the OS.

[ - ] Conspirologist -7 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 07:03:50 ago (+0/-7)

Norton is good. I have been using it since the beginning.

[ - ] Her0n 6 points 1.6 yearsSep 10, 2022 10:41:40 ago (+6/-0)

Ah, more proof that you're retarded.
