Car with no headlights on came to park across street at almost 12 zoomed off when he saw me and nephew at door. Nephew went around looking saw the same car parked up side street. Went around twice more car was still sitting there , called police , took them 30 mins to go look. Nothing else happened thankfully.

You have to also tell a person that they're not welcome. I don't know how specific you have to be, but it's fairly formal. "You are not welcome on my property, and if you come back you are trespassing, and I may call the police." Should work.
For instance, stores when they don't like someone's behavior have a specific procedure they follow and maybe even put it in writing. That way, if someone comes back they have something to show the police. For your purposes, however, it should be sufficient to tell them. You should also ask their name. If nothing else, that may make it clear that you intend to follow up but also if you have to call the police you can say "Around 9pm, I told Tyrone McNuggets that he is banned from my property. He left around that time and nevertheless returned around 10pm"

Here in this county you have to make a report with the sheriff's department. One of the deputies then has to inform the person that they will be considered trespassing if they come on your property again. You just telling the person is not enough. The leo has to be the one that tells them. The catch here is it is real difficult to get a deputy to tell anyone that they will be trespassing if caught on your property again. It may take them weeks, months, usually never for them to get around to doing it!
They are scouting your place to rob, and testing to see if you are stupid enough that they can do it directly with you there. Be prepared for several attempts to rob your house. Make sure shit is locked up, put away, hidden, and that you have some offline camera's goin.

I was once young and stupid . I was 20 with a 1 yr old and I opened the door and this guy and girl were standing there she was saying they had a fight with some roomates and her boyfriend was stabbed. he was holding his arm and I saw blood. I let them in ,(my husband was at work,) I asked do you need to use the phone to call the police ,she said no they went to the bathroom then anothr knock and some people asked if name was there the girlfriend of the guy said yes from the bathroom they came in and there was all this chatter and I didnt know any of these people. I got nervous when one of them said mentioned the tv and the x box , I said they were being rented. Then someone else said you have nice stuff.
I freaked the fuck out. told everyone they needed to leave that my boyfriend would be here soon and if they needed me to call the cops Ill gladly help them with that but they have to go.
I got lucky and they left. Had to throw everything in the bathroom away, there was blood everywhere. around the sink toilet towels toothbrushes..
the next week was where it got weird. had a guy knock on my door late at night wanting to help finding his dog - Fuck that and another one knocking so he could use the phone to call his uncle because hes in pain. I called an ambulance for him and then they took him. nothing happened after those incidents but I cant believe I let those people in my house the first time.
