Well, attempted confiscation. Sorry I have no date of this occurrence or more details. I think the guy handled them pretty well.

Some people don't mind making a point even at an extreme cost. It doesn't have to be everyone. If every time the ATF personnel leave to confiscate someone's guns, they knew that there was a not so insignificant chance that they would be dead at the end of the day, they might think twice about it. What if one in every 150 people that meet the ATF in this situation defended themselves to the bitter end? How many of these instances would it take for these people to realize that there are enough others that are willing to defend themselves from the feds that they can collectively force their hand? There's a very non-linear tipping point somewhere in that equation, and the powers that be know it. They are vastly outnumbered though.

Well, that also presumes that they didn't show him their IDs or he has no way of finding out who they are. It makes sense to use a car oil filter. They're cheap, and you can shoot cleaning solvents into the barrel without having all sorts of oil everywhere. Then set the filter back on the shelf for next time.

That ATF bulletin was an interesting read. You can have oil filters, fuel filters, even flashlights: legal. Have a hole in the end of them or have them attached to a gun: illegal. If the intention is to use it as a silencer, they can get ya.

I had a thought.
What if these 87,000 IRS agents -- specifically hired to be trained and prepared to use lethal force -- are being amassed to be requested during an emergency declaration to aid the ATF in door-to-door confiscations?
I mean, I'm sure I've heard of occasions where one agency can request assistance from another when lacking the manpower or resources needed.

And it would be the perfect way to build up the army needed in preparation for action without alerting the public, since everyone would go right to assuming they were just doubling down on taking more of peoples' hard-earned money instead of a gun grab.
It's almost genius.

I could see that happening.
Some time back there was a story that I followed for a while, about a guy that the feds paid a visit to. The goons surrounded his house, but then his friends, neighbors, and family surrounded the feds! They backed off and tried a different approach. It was pretty obvious that their plan to begin with was to waco the guy.
They probably learned from that one so now they will not be outnumbered and outgunned with a force 87,000 strong.

Yea, he should have asked them to elaborate on that "on the radar" comment. Press them on it. He pressed them on being generally out of line with words that could have been prepped ahead of time. I have at least 4 problems with this situation:

1. Suppressors shouldn't even be NFA items (not counting that the NFA shouldn't even exist)

2. These fucks shouldn't know what this guy has purchased. How did they get that information? Either the company he bought the solvent trap kept records, or the credit card company did. They also claimed that he bought a jig, so they were able to track him across multiple purchases and companies unless it was all in a single transaction. Cutting agencies off from information like this is a more powerful step than having a shootout because the government can't afford to send their agents to everyone who may have something they don't like.

3. Agencies shouldn't be able to make laws or regulations in the manner that they currently do. Who voted that solvent traps are suddenly suppressors? Did the ATF run this by congress?

4. If something is made illegal after you already bought it when it was legal, you should at least be able to get the purchase price back or write off taxes for the same amount (not that I think wage taxes should exist, but w/e)
