What? This is just a part of the launch abort system.

The first stage of the new SLS uses two solid rocket boosters AND the core stage which has four RS-25 rocket engines from the space shuttle orbiters.


What I meant by "somehow" is those valves controlling the thrust must be made of some crazy carbon material to be able to withstand that.
