Launch has been scrubbed for today. Some engine problem. Wish they'd try to launch anyway, big explosions are awesome.

I saw space shuttle Challenger blow up live when I was six. It's one of my earliest memories. I was with my mom in the parking lot of Albertsons, on our way in when we stopped to watch it go up. I didn't understand at the time, just knew mom was distressed by it. It was fucking rad, to use the parlance of the time.

Me too. I was eight. It was a big deal, having a teacher go to space. My elementary school called an assembly in the gym and we watched it live. I remember one of the teachers crying.

I lived in south Florida and we would watch it from the school yard. I'm sure it was a big deal for the adults that witnessed it, but how are you supposed to process that as a kid? I didn't even know what death was really, how am I supposed to take in the magnitude of what happened that day? I remember when shuttle Columbia broke up on re-entry. That had a little more impact, but not much. Hard to identify with people that fly fucking spaceships. It's pretty abstract.

Most adults don't understand death. The only ones who do are those who are ready to die right now at this moment. They know that safety is an illusion and that death will come for them and their family with 100% certainty. People who don't understand death will trade everything for the false promise of security. They'll toil restlessly for a future they don't have. They'll button up a contract with every contingency and feel secure, ignoring the elephant in the room. When you realize that every action you take results in your death, then you understand. Every job you take, every business you build, every mathematical theorem you prove, every story you write. All earthly toil has the same reward.

I understand death. I've drowned to death. I came to terms with how fragile life really is. I don't want to die, but I'm not afraid to die. I'm more concerned with leaving my wife here alone. I'm sure she'll be alright, but that's the only thing that really stresses me about mortality. Other than that, I'm just trying to make the best of the time I have in front of me

Woah dude. You drowned, and were brought back?

What was it like? Was it as bad as people imagine? Glad you made it.

I've been following the livestreams and traffic and commotion there and haven't heard a single mention of flat earth protestors... The only time I hear about flat-earthers is on this website or on jewtube videos making fun of them. I've never met a single person that believes the earth is flat.
