which is better - plastic thermos or steel? My experience is plastic keeps water warmer.

I bought the more expensive stainless steel thermos that tradies use but have found my cheap ol' plastic Big W [Walmart] jobs are better at keeping water hotter. I'm looking to buy a small plastic thermos.

Just bought another Yeti today.

Is your plastic one double walled?
Your link answers the question on materials pretty thoroughly as far as vacuum is concerned.
But I wonder how necessary the vacuum is between shell layers if your is double walled and compares with steel ones?

As far as my 1gal steel yeti. I froze it about 50-60% full and filled the rest with lukewarm water around 7am.
Put the thing in direct sunlight at 102° in the back of my kayak, and still had I tiny ice cube in it at 3pm and was still cold as fuck at 4.

I have a hard time believing any plastic model could do that, but it would be cool if they could.

It depends on the type of metal used in the construction, in addition to construction methods.

My uranium thermos keeps stuff nice and warm for a long time.

Thanks bro.I rarely get any praise on this site so your kind words are welcome.

PS I'm assuming "unmatched" means unmatched in interest and topicality!

Steal is healthier, plastic better insulating.

Check these.

Plastics leak xenoestrogens into liquids. And before you say anything about BPA free, they replace BPA with another bisphenol, like S. While we can't completely avoid plastics, we can limit exposure. Stick with stainless steel.

Really though, at this point avoiding plastic is like avoiding glyphosate. It's in everything and we're fucked.
