Had a rough day today. I'm pretty fucking sad

submitted by JudyStroyer to whatever 1.7 yearsAug 16, 2022 23:32:09 ago (+90/-1)     (whatever)

So, where to begin.... My brain is just scrambled right now so please excuse me if this post is a pile of shit because I am having a hard time putting this to words. I'm venting to you guys because I dont have many friends beyond my immediate family and I just want to scream right now into the void. I had to put my best friend to sleep today unexpectedly and I feel carved out. Hollow. She was the best dog I ever had. She was sick, wouldnt eat, lethargic, got worse, puking. It all happened over about 4 days, the vet thought it was addisons disease. Said that she would need steroids daily and a $200 shot monthly. For the rest of her life. We were fine with that because she would at least be ok. She wanted to keep her for a few days on an iv to let the meds help and she should be fine in a few days. She told us we could come visit her. That was yesterday. Today we went to visit her(brought the kids too) and the vet called as we were about to arrive.

We told her we were on our way and would be there in a few minutes, she said she would wait to talk to us there. We get there, they carry her in and she looks worse than she did last night. She tells us that the test came back negative for addisons. She ran more tests and discovered she had lyme disease and that it attacked her kidneys and there wasn't much to do... We went in there thinking she would probably be coming home tomorrow, only to watch her die. My kids, especially my son are fucking sad as hell. She slept in his room everynight with him. Hug the furry ones in your life. At least we got to be with her when she passed. She was a part of our family. Her name was Bailey. Thanks for reading.

I love you, Bailey. You're a good girl.

Pets dying is just too awful.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 6 points 1.7 yearsAug 16, 2022 23:48:31 ago (+6/-0)

yeah man. You arent lying.

[ - ] CHIRO 6 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 00:38:18 ago (+6/-0)

Sorry, fella. That stuff tears your guts out. It wouldn't be this bad if the short time we get with them wasn't really, really good.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 09:59:59 ago (+0/-0)

Absolutely. Thanks, man.

What about those that are willingly in for 4 jabs - and advocated those who broke quarantine rules should be shot ?? - What you say about that fcko.

[ - ] paul_neri -1 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 07:15:52 ago (+0/-1)

dassar, dassar...When I said quarantine-breakers should be shot I was using poetic licence. I didn't mean it.

[ - ] dassar 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 15:32:36 ago (+0/-0)

You mean how "Die painfully, faggot" is Rhetorical hyperbole .

[ - ] InYourFaceNancyGrace 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 14:03:00 ago (+0/-0)

I'm half-convinced they die first because we handle it better. I was out of town for a week on business, and my wife said my dog stayed and slept by the front window every day/night when she wasn't eating or outside going potty.

Now that I'm back my dog seems to be a little sick (peeing a lot, dilute urine, drinking a lot, not eating well); this post hits a little too close to home. I figure she's had a taste of what life would be like without me and is like, "Nah, I'll just die first."

My condolences Judy. I never had a pet in my life so I can't relate but I do know loss and it's a terrible feeling. You and your family please take care. :)

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 16, 2022 23:49:16 ago (+2/-0)

thank you for your kind words.

[ - ] pickingrinninspittin 5 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 09:19:40 ago (+5/-0)

It's exactly because we love them so deeply that it hurts when they leave us. They give us so much. The next time you're tying to decide whether to get your lazy ass off the couch to take Snuffles for a walk think of that. You'll stop being a selfish toad faster than you can say "Who's a good boy?".

You can do nothing better than daily strive to live up to the person that your dog thinks you are.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:33:27 ago (+1/-0)

Well said man. Thank you.

Saying goodbye is the worst aspect of having pets in your life. Heartbreaking.

I couldn't agree more. Thank you for your comment

Fuck that reminds me of when I was on vacation and heard about my dog died and there was nothing I could do to go see her because I was in a different country at the time. Another time when I came back home from school and went straight to working out in my garage right after my mom told me my other dog died earlier that morning. There was also something that really fucked me over a couple of years ago where I couldn’t afford keep my dogs anymore and had to give them away. It filled me with so much sadness and rage at not being able to do anything about. If there is anything that life has taught is that dogs truly are the some of the greatest beings in the world even higher than most people in my experience. Dogs don’t possess narcissism like humans do they’re filled with love and understanding. And that’s something I’ll never forget from my dogs

[ - ] con77 6 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 00:26:13 ago (+6/-0)

I absolutely believe that you will see her again in the next realm

[ - ] Jiggggg 3 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 06:21:58 ago (+3/-0)

Me too. I've had visits from my past buddies. I know my whole pack is waiting for me

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:01:30 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks, con. I believe you're correct.

[ - ] KeepPoal4fags 6 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 00:11:23 ago (+6/-0)

I know the pain bro, I'm sorry man. Somehow its worse than when my grandpas died. Fkn sucks.

[ - ] KeepPoal4fags 8 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 01:08:19 ago (+8/-0)

I should add that we have done the whole "old dog dies" tragedy a few times now. So, in anticipation of our sweet old border collie nearing her end we picked up some pups. They are going to be 2-3 years old by the time she kicks the bucket, so they will be calm, learned, and familiar enough to give us comfort when the old girl goes. The old ones offer valuable guidance to the young ones, and when the time comes they will be there to console you.

A lot of people say "just get a new one", but i prefer this approach.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 3 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 09:38:50 ago (+3/-0)

Yeah, thats what we were doing actually. We had 3 dogs. One is ten, other eight, and Bailey was a little over four. She was our puppy. Thanks for your comments, they help. Im going to post some pics of her when I have a moment.

[ - ] Laputois 4 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 09:47:35 ago (+4/-0)

I have this hanging near my desk along with pictures of some of the friends in my life who are no longer here. It gives me comfort. My wife asked me why there were no humans coming to greet them, I told her it's because the animals are faster. https://pic8.co/sh/tyF2BT.jpg

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:42:34 ago (+2/-0)

Thank you. That is beautiful.

Really sorry to hear about Bailey. I’m going to find out soon if I have to put down my 12 year old Australian Shepherd.

She suddenly went deaf and blind yesterday. We took her to the vet and by the time we left, she couldn’t stand on her own. We took her to an emergency hospital. They wanted to keep her overnight to run tests. We’re waiting for a call. I’ll have to decide today if she’ll be put to sleep. I can help her if she’s deaf and blind, but if she can’t walk… then we can’t keep her.

Sorry for your loss.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:39:26 ago (+2/-0)

Im so so sorry. We pay a price to have these companions. I will be thinking of you and your friend today. I hope she pulls through.

[ - ] Jiggggg 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 13:20:55 ago (+2/-0)

I'm so sorry. That's terrible. I had a dog that went suddenly blind overnight. Turns out she had SARDS and she ended up living for eight more years totally blind. That dog was my hero.

I hope your girl pulls through. Keep us updated. I can help you with dealing with dog blindness if you need any advice (I was honored to be her Seeing Eye Person).

[ - ] PearofAnguishJuniorManager 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 16:33:19 ago (+2/-0)

It turns out that Zoey had a brain tumor. And would likely never see, hear, or walk again. My wife and I went to the hospital this morning and spent some time with her before they put her to sleep. They said she was too sedated and likely wouldn’t respond, but she did respond and knew we were there. Afterwards, we drove her to a pet cremation place. And then we got drunk and told dog stories.

If I don't get to see them all again when I die this place will see the biggest tantrum ever.

No kidding. Sometimes I'm such a sad bastard that the thought of being able to see all of my old dogs and cats again when I croak is all that's getting me through.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 0 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 21:20:23 ago (+0/-0)

Thanks, man. The part about calling your passed pup to get the other to eat made me smile. That is good stuff. My other dogs are looking for her. She ran the place. We have a ten year old shihtzu mix and an eight year old lab/rottie mix looking guy. She was a four year old german shepherd. They keep checking the spots she would usually hang out. The lab/rot guy would only ever whine when one of the kids or my wife was gone. He would just sit and whine. He has been doing that all day and we were all home together today. He has never done that. They used to roughhouse together outside all the time since they were closer in size than the little guy. I wish there were some way to explain it to them.

[ - ] knightwarrior41 4 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 01:33:57 ago (+4/-0)

she wasnt a girl, she was a good bitch. there's a difference right there.

joking aside,i'm sorry for your lost.grieve and cry as much as you can but dont show weakness in front of the kids.they already feel much worse than you about this loss. so, i would advice you that you should replace her as soon as you can. it will be good for you and more importantly, for the little ones

sorry for your loss, i know how much it hurts to lose a dear pet.

you have my deepest sympathies

To feel great sadness one must first feel equal happiness. I've never had a pet. I will never experience the happiness you once had.

[ - ] paul_neri 2 points 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 00:53:15 ago (+2/-0)

To be quite frank. Unless you can cope with losing a pet don't get one. I was never an intentional pet owner.

The only silver lining is losing a pet is a healthy first loss for your son to learn how to grieve on. Its sad but not world shaking like the loss of a parent friend or grand parent. Respect to All the good dogs we've lost

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Bailey girl. Staying with her until the very end was brave and the right thing to do, some people don't have the courage to be in the room. God bless you and your family and RIP Bailey. <3

My condolences.

Had something very similar happen with my dog last thanksgiving. "Explosive heart cancer" is what got him, from a dog with the biggest heart and dopeyest attitude. A sudden end to a wonderful companion.

Write/type out what you loved about your dog. Keep it private of course, but write it down and get it out. It helped me a lot with the grieving process, might be something to introduce to your son.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:44:20 ago (+1/-0)

I had to put down my lab mix, this big beautiful blond bastard, a few years ago. Feels like yesterday. He had a good life but it still rips me up inside. I took him off these stupid spic neighbors that were just ruining him and he was behaviorally a mess but we got thru it and he ended up being the best, most loyal dog. When I think of him, I think of how much he really loved me. Is that selfish? I KNEW he loved ME even when he wasn’t trying to connive a treat out of me. And he used to hump the AIR when I got the leash because he was so excited to go for walks, lol. I miss him. He was a pal.

Fuck lyme man. Probably developed by the government. He got it once but we nipped it in the bud. He just suddenly couldnt walk one day— I totally freaked. They diagnosed it right away. So very sorry for your pup.

I've been through similar things. My cat Raiden just got too old and the vet said he will basically go into a coma and die. I wouldn't put him down so he over the span of one and a half days my buddy of 16 years layed on the floor going in and out of a coma. When out of a coma he would call out but not move. I laid on the floor with him for hours and hours until he passed away. Such a good cat. Next cat KiKi had breast cancer. Got surgery a first time but the tumors came back to a pretty bad level fast. I held the poor sweet thing in my hand when the vet put her down. Couldn't do anything for her but make sure she wasn't scared.

It's best that they don't go through any pain.

[ - ] JudyStroyer [op] 1 point 1.7 yearsAug 17, 2022 10:32:34 ago (+1/-0)

Sorry to hear about Bailey. I have a 14-year-old lab mix, Mollie. Her favorite toy in the whole world was a bowling ball. She would literally vibrate if she thought I was getting it for her to play with; she could get her teeth in the finger holes and walk with it. Would like to say she has had a good life. But as she is now an eat & sleep dog with cataracts and bad hips, I know it won’t be long until she either won’t wake up or I must make a decision. The toughest part will be dealing with my 11-year-olds grief, Mollie has been a part of her entire life.

There is nothing in this life which compares to the immeasurable, unconditional love we receive from a dog. I have thought often the reason our animal friends leave so soon is to keep our hubris in check; their short life is to remind us our time is finite. I’m sure Bailey will meet Mollie soon, I just hope there are bowling balls in the field by the bridge.

Sorry for your loss. It's not fair that such wonderful creatures like dogs have such short lifespans compared to us.

So sorry to hear. Its hard to lose a loved one whether human or animal. I hope you find some comfort in the fact she is not in anymore pain, but I know you're probably too distraught right now for that. Time heals though. I have said goodbye to my fair share friends and it doesn't get easier.

My girlfriend has lyme disease. All kinds of issues with that shit and it probably came from an American weapons program when you look into it. Didn't think of it as fatal then read this. For fuck sake.

Sorry for your loss

Thanks man. I never knew this but it seems there are two types, one is treatable and slower moving targeting the joints, one is faster, untreatable and attacks the organs. She had the latter. Its crazy how quickly her health turned out of no where. At least this is what I have come across on the internet trying to find some answers. I'll keep your girlfriend's health and recovery in my thoughts.

I'm sorry for your loss, it's something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

And hey, be strong for your kids. I can't think of things much worse than what you and your family are going through, having gone through it a few years ago with our family dog who would follow my wife around while she was pregnant because he seemed to know what was going on, he protected the kids very well until the day he died.

Vent, yell into the void, but show restraint in front of your kids, for their sake.

Sorry to hear about your pet.

My nigger dog was diagnosed with vascular cancer just a month ago. She is 9 years old.

Right now she is doing well but a new tumor came out on her belly.

I am hoping that she can enjoy the new lot once our house is built so she can run like crazy through the big yard we will have.

When she passes is going to be tough but I am thankful and proud that I adopted her when she was 2 years old and have been able to care for her all this time.
