No, don't do that. It'll start a fire.
I have a smoker and a grill. If you don't want to spend cash for a smoker, just buy a bag of chips and use a camping smoker. If you are starting out this is the most reasonable/cost-effective route. They are small and cheap, if you like it then get serious and buy a cabinet.
Fuck I just wrote a long reply and talk.lol logged me out and dumped the comment.
I dont know the background of your ostensibly anemic condition. So I dont want to tell you the wrong thing. But I would seriously examine the need to take extra iron as you age, especially given a risk factor like BRCA which I think you have. Talk to the doc and ask him if the iron is really necessary and point out the literature on iron and cancer.
The relationship between iron and cancer is complicated. There might even be a couple cancers that are reduced by iron intake. But in general, there’s a pretty strong positive correlation between increased iron intake and cancer.
Interestingly there are a few novel cancer strategies that use iron overload to kill cancer. Complicated.
But in general stay away from iron supplements unless you are really deficient, especially as you age.
Also iron is not good to take for infections like the flu or covid. I think the viruses need iron and your body tries to sequester iron to keep the pathogen from using it. Or something like that.
When I got home one time he told me he saw a chicken get date raped. said he saw a rooster lead the chicken to a watermelon we threw out, made sure she was in there eating and then did his deed.
Easier to clean, it does "fry" stuff with a much smaller amount of oil, it is smaller/faster and therefore uses less energy, and you can use it for all sorts of stuff like grilling meats/veg/whatever.
i roast garlic while its still in the peel. takes awhile on the grill but after like an hour it makes this garlic paste. it squeezes out the ass end pretty well, yummy stuff.
ive heard the elephant garlic doesnt have that same strong garlic flavor that i know and love. i also like setting whole unpeeled garlic and shallots on the grill, has the same effect. i can eat roasted onion with a fork, shits so good.
There is definitely truth to that, but by roasting garlic, you are in effect changing and muting the flavor. Once muted as such, the differences are not as pronounced, yet yield a very pleasing flavor and texture.
This all has to do with the “Chemistry of cooking”, and the variety of garlic. For example, if you were to cut the general store bought “soft neck” variety as opposed to “elephant” variety, and slice thinly, the soft neck would be far more pronounced over the elephant. However, once roasted, the soft neck will lose much of its intensity, and while there still is a difference, it will not be as pronounced.
I would recommend that you give it a try, much as a raw onion can be tamed and sweetened by caramelizing it via sauté.

I don't do it enough. We have a big one from when we lived in the RV full time. It's still there, I should use it to roast peppers for a snack while I'm weeding.
I have the gourmia. The French door style one. I only ever used it for frozen foods before but recently I found out it toasts bagels and well now the roasting.
Oh and those little sausage link things cook really well in there. Breakfast for 5 people was done in less than 20 minutes. I was shocked.
I've tried the bacon in there and making quesadillas once in it but nothing is going to beat the cast iron on those.
I figure it's for quick items but now that I see can use it for prep I'm a little excited about it.
I wanted the foodie too and even the though the price has come down by a lot it was just so big I didn't see where I could put it.
If I had the space in the kitchen for it I probably would have jumped on the foodi.
Hopefully someone answers in here if they have one so I can live vicariously through them.

Thank you kindly for your response. The wife suggested to me both the Gourmia and the Ninja Foodi when air fryers started to become popular, and they were quite expensive. I was curious whether the rapid food preparation and convenience were good trade-offs for the price. Looks like they are. But I agree, for some things, nothing will replace cast iron. I wouldn't consider cooking bacon, sausage, or quesadillas in anything other than my Lodge cast iron.
I've considered several brands and it looks like the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 is what I'm looking for. But you're right, the size needs to be taken into consideration, but when I think of the other appliances I can replace with this (pressure cooker, rice cooker), It seems to be a good trade-off. And you're right again that the price has come down. This monster is only $99. I can realize a lot of value for that.
Thanks again for your reply. I'm always happy to talk to someone who loves cooking, even if it's simple meals.
