In my day the pitcher might feel bad about the hit, and the batter angry at getting hit, but there would only maybe be a handshake.

At the end of the match, when the ball wasn't in play. To diffuse any lingering hostility/frustration from the game, and to leave it there on the pitch, guided by the coach who is supposed to look out for such things and encourage fair gamesmanship.

Both genders cry when they are babies. Some don't get needed development. Nothing wrong with them getting it a little late, rather than never. I don't think that crying begets more, rather the opposite. It's like a cut bleeding, forming a scab, and healing.

The damaging part is parents, while the kids are OK, constantly reinforcing being pussies, sabotaging their attempts to become men. This is the acid that eats away at their development.

Hopefully they'll at some point understand that there is danger, and that the pitcher is throwing an object at high speed at the guy. He'll get hit sometimes. Don't get phased by it.
