What it really shows is that sanctions are bi-directional. You can't sanction someone without sanctioning yourself. Trade is always to your advantage even in a time of war and even with your enemies. Regimes are hardly hurt by sanctions but people are. We talk about trying to mitigate the impact of war on common citizens. Economic war does the opposite.
What if a sanction on a required good increase profits for the rulers while teaching the plebs to be serfs though? I would say it is working as intended.
The only time a sanction works is if you don't import the shit and make it all yourself anyway. And even then you have to track all that shit and make sure to also sanction anyone else doing business with the sanctioned populace.

The problem is that the country being sanctioned can always just make things themselves or use the products they would export themselves. Sanctions have never worked ever in all of human history. North Korea hasn't ceased to be North Korea. Iran hasn't ceased to be Iran. No past rifts have ever been resolved or softened with time. It has produced exactly zero geo-political solutions.
Sanctions are a domestic solution. When you paint a certain country in bad light and the public buys your propaganda and says back, "Ok, now what are you going to do about it?", but you don't actually want to commit to starting a war, sanctions give you the opportunity to say you did something while leaving your population to pay the cost because of the uniform bi-directional nature of sanctions.
It is really just the media and globalists. Yes, they use nato and the eu, but if the people weren't on board, if they were told the repercussions for their blue and yellow flags, then they wouldn't have supported it.
