I bought a 14tb red plus and a 16tb red pro @ $11 and $12 per tb. I'm looking at DAS vs NAS and have narrowed it down to QNAP TR-002 or the ASUSTOR Lockerstor 2 AS6602T. Any guidance/suggestions would be appreciat.
Thanks for the reply UD, I like that the Asustor has a wake on feature and I'll try to integrate my surveillance system into it. 4 core processor and I've got ram laying around to upgrade, + 2 m.2 slots for cache.
I am not familiar with those models of NAS or DAS.
NAS attaches the disks to one or more PCs over an Ethernet cable. They can be mounted as a drive with a drive letter in Windows (e.g., G:\) using iSCSI.
DAS attaches disks to (usually just) one PC over SATA or SAS. If you put the 2 drives inside your PC using the PC's internal drive bays and internal SATA controller, that would be DAS.
Why not use the bays and SATA controller in your PC?

NAS is better than DAS imo, as any device can read that new network such as chromecast, mibox, etc for home entertainment purposes.
