I would believe it through. If the majority of people don't go to events because it's inconvenient, and has a chance of giving them a result that will have them and everyone they know out of work for a while, then with no one going there will be less spread.

If you screen for the flu at an event, and don't let the people in who have the flu, then wouldn't the result be spreading less flu?
Even if you kick out 20 random people, the chance for spreading any disease lessens.
