Information obtained illegally cannot be used in a court of law, regardless of who obtained it.

They may try to point to a EULA, but most of the time, they are not legally enforceable for a variety of reasons.

Still, best not to have any such devices in the home. Beat them with a hammer if they can't be removed easily.

'cannot be used in a court of law'

dont know if youve noticed the last 5 years or so but no one gives a fuck at the moment about whats legal and whats not.

pretty sure its illegal for a judge to look at a post-mortem report saying someone died from a fentanyl overdose, ignore it, and convict someone for mudering the person for something not even on the post mortem let alone completely ignore video footage showing the fucker very much alive after witnessess for prosecution claim he was very dead.

The system has a thing they call parallel construction, where they twist the shit until it is admissible

Gotta love how they can have a judge simply deny your evidence though.

Judge says: I'll allow it.

I installed a convection cook top today. It had a device to plug in underneath that connects to Wi-Fi. Why the fuck would I want a listening device connected to my stove? At least they made it optional. I threw it in the trash.

IS there no way to disable the wifi part of that crap?

The Nest connects to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it’s integrated. Gives you all sorts of useless data via your phone that I don’t give a shit about.
On the stove, it’s stated purpose was that if you had a stove issue, they could run a diagnostic and a repairman would show up with the right part to fix it. Supposed to save you some time. What’s it doing the rest of the time? I don’t want my stove logging all the times I utter that ‘Hitler was right’, while I’m making oatmeal.

Fuck them. Let them do what all repairmen before them have done. Figure out the problem, and if you don't have the part on-hand, order it.

Oh wait, these aren't repairmen anymore. They're just parts-swappers who follow a script.

Every function that google or amazon shit does in the house is just pure fucking laziness.

Apparently all new appliances come with the "smart" feature aka listening devices. Oh, and these creep, cheap appliances are made to stop working after 5 years or sooner.

Might be different circumstances if someone got hurt during the robbery, then you'd have danger to the public. Even then, its faster and easier to ask the homeowner instead of going through the company.
