IIRC a lot of these displays are just arrays of addressable LED strips, so there's no panel or backlight in the traditional sense. Makes them light and, when necessary, see-through.

You're not wrong, but I've worked with both strip LED screens and actual "bulb" type LED screens and this looks like the latter, which is way older tech and more cumbersome. Also, regardless of the type of screen, it's still gonna have a massive aluminum/steel frame backing it.
