It's odd. In a way Birt Reynolds was a Georgia/Florida boy representing the south well on talk shows etc.

But with this film he really sold out and created one of the most longstanding false and harmful caricatures of southerners as backward inbreds when of course the Jews including the one playing the inbred are the real inbreds in life.

None the less I was sorry to see Burt Reynolds whither and die.

Life is short people. When you start seeing the celebrities you grew up with knocking off from old age it hits home and you REALLY understand your time on this planet is limited.

Use it wisely.

I never saw the film all the way through. It disgusted me. I stopped reading the book half-way through also when it didn't seem to go anywhere. I had a teacher years ago when I was living in South Carolina who thought James Dickey was a brilliant writer and encouraged everyone to read his work, but I see no evidence that he was any good. His subject matter was depraved and degenerate and he seemed to dwell on the lurid.

They were selling the idiots gomer pyle and green acres as drooling idiots back in the 60's.
