410a is on the way out. It has a greenhouse effect several hundred times more than CO2. But since the total released from AC units is trivial compared to that from combustion it must be banned and replaced by a newer formulation. The new mixture contains a flammable hydrocarbon, so now we have saved the ozone, prevented global warming, and placed an explosion hazard in our homes. We're here from the government to help....

The refrigerants keep changing. If they wanted an ozone-friendly refrigerant, they should have adopted one. I think it's all a scam to charge lots of money for obscure refrigerants.
