Most news I've seen in recent years would have to be labled opinion only few years before because it is so one sided, and full of manipulative, shaming, agenda pushing language.
Just as one should never let oneself be subject to "rulers" whose house you cannot reach on a moonless night's ruck, one should not bother with "news" of events and people more than a few hours drive away. The chances it has any impact on your -- with the possible exception of water logistics -- is so small that its rarely worth the effort and the time/energy could have been spent on something local.
