Each new variant is somehow the worst variant seen.
Since the only people dropping dead seem to be those with the shot (as said or experienced by those I could actually talk with or have some relationship with) it really shows how minor the supposed original variant was.
All that panic over something that remains trivial even when multiplied in danger several times over.
