Civilians have two years of ammo

In a disaster there'd be no nearby country to resupply.

How much is a years supply though? Tim Tam had a competition to win "a years supply of Tim Tam's" which they decided was 52 packs, I would have thought if I'm not buying them a years supply would be a pack a day.

Are you expecting to be trying to "keep your figure" so to speak or max out a binge on bullets?

"How much is a years supply though?

Depends on if you're talking about peacetime, civil instability, collapse, invasion, or civil war.

All of those scenarios are different.

And it depends on if you're talking about the public as a whole, or individuals.

If individual, are you talking survivor, fighter, doomsday prepare in a cabin somewhere, individual guys in a military unit, what?

If talking about the public as a whole, it depends on the previously mentioned context.

And if you determine the context, it depends on the intensity of the conflicts (frequency and ammo usage) and what percentage of the public is active.

For example, in the context of an invasion (afhganistan), the u.s. used something like ten thousand rounds per 'insurgent'. But that was with the goal of killing OR capturing. So there was a LOT of suppressive fire involved.

tl;dr not enough information to say.

Where did you get that number?

Had 22,000 rounds of 5.56. Sold a bunch to my less prepared brothers in the recent "where'd the ammo go" thing. It might sound like a lot, but to a shooter who might shoot a 1000 rounds in a range sesh, it will go quick. Still not sure what "2 years" would be. Might be 100-200 rounds to some folks.

BTW, I never shoot that much in practice. Ever. That's one of the reasons I sold some off. Have consolidated calibers and its now down to .22, 9mm, .45, 5.56, .308, 12 ga.

You know, there are those rail gu.. I mean launchers. If they improve EV battery tech, it will inherently improve that tech.

I mean, yes, having a shitload of power on demand would make those a lot better. An incremental improvement in batteries will only make them sort of better. At double the capacity and output of a li-ion, I'd say you're still not looking at a practical rail gun.

I wonder if super capacitors could provide that power on demand. Theoretical a capacitor can provide infinite current/power when t=0.
