Maybe it's just the episodes I've watched. I've never felt like any of the bosses actually care. It's a PR stunt to make them look good. They give away some stuff to 3 people and we all cry happy.

idk, call me overly cynical but I've never had a boss that gave a single shit about his employees. They love talking about what a big family we are here and it's invariably bullshit. This has held true from small business right up to global corp and multiple industries.

I've never worked somewhere that small. I'm sure that has an impact. And I'm not trying to say business owners are all assholes. I like some of the people who acted this way. I'd just prefer they be honest about it. We have a business relationship. I'm not your family. Don't blow smoke up my ass.

I will confess that most business owners, I don't like. I'm biased that way. Most that I have met I just don't like as people. Not all, or you maybe, but most are a lot of the things I find detestable in people.

I work for a medium sized business which I have really seen take care of people when they go through the hardest times in their life -- including me. Sometimes it's a grind; some people can't hack it; family isn't the word I'd use. it's more of a club.

I think the key is that it is family owned. Publicly traded companies have a difficult time justifying treating people well, for whatever reason.
