I'm specifically referring to their software as it relates to Microsoft's software suite; like teams, o365 and outlook (FUCKING OUTLOOK!!), Etc.
Outlook is the superior way to use email. Gmail is a cluster fuck with slight advantages with AI. The reminder and calendar system Microsoft has is far superior to Google's and Google's malfunctions on top of all that by reminding me of shit that isn't happening for a week down the road.
And what in the hell is the deal with Google docs/sheets/etc. Make that shit functional and make an OFFLINE word freaking processor that simply syncs with Drive, like OneDrive does with Microsoft word. Microsoft is even beating google in collabor-freaking-ation tech with document editing. Completely dominating Google, hands down.
Google search isn't much better than Bing either, which I've been using since 2018ish, because it's not Google.
Something really bad must be happening at Google internally that they haven't made DESKTOP clients to use for their software. They used to have Google talk, Google desktop (this was amazing software btw, idk if anyone here used it), Picasa was awesome and I forget whatever else.
To top it all off, Microsoft also has the OPTION of using all of this in a web browser with nearly identical UIs...
Google has android and YouTube, and that's it. And I'd argue they don't even have YouTube; that trashy website is TV 2.0 and I never watch it unless someone sends me something specific (good chance it's cancer anyways) or I'm looking for something specific. I haven't surfed YouTube since 2013 and once in 2018. And as a side note on Android, I just bought a new non-vanilla android phone for the first time and it's missing basic features like multiple profiles, can't find out how to use both sim card slots (the second 1 appears to be a holder only), camera doesn't take quality photos/videos (in current year no less), no removable battery, out of date OS by a year. Getting real tired of these problems.
Microsoft could use some work with sithcing together SharePoint and and other file sharing services, as I always get lost navigating those and remember which log in goes where, and then there are permission requests for some of the seemingly separate sites.
But damn, Microsoft even acquired GitHub... Why Google didn't do that blows my mind. Probably something to do with pajeet taking over as Google CEO (which btw was ONLY a token of "what one Indian can accomplish if they come to America" in order for Google to get competition going in India so people work harder for less; they do the same thing with the Chinese (the US government does this same thing)).
Could type more but I'm out of time.
Google sucks and is almost entirely a propaganda outlet for the US government now.
Outlook/o365: Productivity software. Quality and features of free editions are designed to get you to pay for the premium offering.
GMail/Google apps: Data gathering software; YOU are the product. Quality and features are designed to be just good enough that you don't consider purchasing real software.
I think you have failed to understand Google's business model. Ask your self how Google make money off of any of the 'products' that you mention. Google is not a Software Company. Google is a Data company. Almost all of the money Google make comes from collection user data and selling it in various ways.
Google does not give a fuck if Gmail is not as good as Outlook... as long as lots of people use their free services and they can collect data they make money. Google 'products' are not products at all, or even services... they are BAIT
> Google does not give a fuck if Gmail is not as good as Outlook
Yes they do, and if they don't, they're mistaken.
No, no they really don't. You are mistaken. All they care about is collecting user data. Outlook has way more features because it is targeted at a completely different market and business model. Outlook is targeted to the business world where users need lots of features around scheduling, out of office replies, meetings, etc. etc. Gmail is targeted at your grandmother who is sending cat pics. Outlook is a premium commercial product with a big price tag for corporate uses. Gmail is a free to use product for the unwashed masses.
Unfortunately the cost of 0 day vulnerabilities and patch management for Microsoft desktop products (think manpower and the business reputation hit if said company is hacked) far outweigh the loss of productivity. My employer moved off MS products several years ago. Oh I'm not happy about it either as g-suites is a total clusterfuck but I can see why companies adopt Google.
SaaS Everything is moving towards online software. There are several reasons for this 1.) Piracy is nearly impossible 2.) Better billing metrics 3.) Easier to patch and upgrade when you don't have to consider multiple operating systems 4.) Control and Monitoring of business and personal information 5.) Forces people to be online, removes the ability to work independently 6.) Developers are now pajeet. Pajeets suck at client software. 7.) Security is easier when you don't have to worry about bugs nuking client machines 8.) Funds their data centers
Microsoft got into the chinese market by allowing them to pirate software, get them hooked, then turned their shit to SaaS. Google has always been SaaS and they can't really make inroads.
Both companies suck. Unfortunately, I know both companies are killing client software competitors. Most "open source" projects are primarily ran by Microsoft at this point.
I think your whole analysis here is off the mark. You're probably not a tech person
I wasn't even asking "why is everything in muh cloud". Also, you're discounting tech savvy users to nothing, and that bit about security being easier...? Not even the relocation antiviruses/firewalls to SaaS simplifies that in any way. If you are using the firewalls and antivirus software that's been out for a very long time, it always had update checks when you ran it. Having it installed on your machine doesn't simplify anything, except maybe a small adjustment on Microsoft's end instead of the user - but that has never come into play for me, and I've used a computer regularly since I was in 5th grade.
The part about china has nothing to do with my post, and is wrong in and of itself. Decades ago when chinks were pirating windows and Microsoft software, they didn't even dream of SaaS. And Microsoft was late af to the game anyways, even when it became a thing. So no, Microsoft did not lure them in to get them on SaaS. And user software has nothing to do with a barrier in using software as a service, so much as it has to due with complacency/entrenchment.
Also, I was inferring that I don't use any of that "bait" software by Google, especially if I don't have to, in my post. So their data gathering on me is minimized.

Any questions?

Ok, so why not make the products they're already using to collect user data into a better product, like Microsoft's.
Data collection isn't magic. They need products for people to use in order to collect the info.
Yes they do, and if they don't, they're mistaken. Let's realize that companies aren't always acting perfectly logically

Oracle can go to hell as well.
