There is a forced Google screen you cannot get rid of.

The only benefit to me with a cell is the texting, otherwise I'd flip phone.

I don't take my phone with me when I go out because I do not want to return calls IMMEDIATELY. If I were to get lost, Id ask a white person for directions.

I'm pretty much the opposite of you. Texting was my LEAST favorite part of having a smart phone (before I got rid of it). Maps was the ONLY functionality I cared about. Getting lost in shitty cities isn't fun.

Having updated gps maps is easily 50% of my battery consumption.

I got lost in a supermarket.

I could no longer shop happily.

I had an essential phone. It was okay. Quality materials but still android. You'd want to find a good fork that stripped out all of the tracking that it still did.

If you are paranoid or just trying to avoid staying within seconds of the internet and relatives all the time, Buy an actual Garmin like device with no communications. It has maps of the whole USA in it so if the internet goes down you still have moving maps. Pawn shops always have used ones for cheap. Even if the maps are 2 or 4 years old so what?

Also buy a USA color road atlas.

Take a cash paid $30 burner phone from the grocery store with you that's turned off and not activated to you or at all. It will still allow emergency calls.

Remember not to use your grocery store rewards card when buying it...duh.

Leave your regular phone home

I haven't done it often myself and usually by accident if I forget my phone but being away from the internet frees up your mind pretty quickly. Makes you realize how much time you waste on this BS.
