What are your July 4th plans? Anything fun, cool? Do you even care?

I stay home on drunkfest holidays, no need to go get in trouble. I don’t buy fireworks, it’s a waste of money. Where I live, the next town over does a fireworks show that I can see from my front porch, so no need to travel, besides, I don’t care for groups of people with kids and shit, they piss me off. I don’t put out flags or bunting or any of that crap. I’m not painting a target on my house or place of business for the America haters. A buddy of mine gave me some New York steaks from a cow he raised, so we'll grill those and do some farm fresh veggies. Probably do some shooting out back because of muh freedom n sheeeiit.

I don't observe the holiday, I just take the day off. I take no pride in what this country has become. It shames me that I used to have some patriotic feeling and that the country I served is now unrecognizable from what it was when I was young. Same with Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

Man, you and I both. I didn’t serve. I always wished I had, until I woke up, and now I’m glad I didn’t. Lost a friend in Iraq in ‘05. I thought at the time that he died valiantly, I now know that he would feel like I do about it all if he were here.

My grandfather was a WW2 POW. I wonder what he would think.

I don’t give a fuck about veterans or their stupid day. I also don’t give military discounts in my place of business. Why should I supplement someone who chose a career path that I am already supplementing? Really? Most of these guys have better benefits than I do.

Memorial Day? Yes, we are closed on that day, out of respect. But let’s face it, no one has died for this country since the war of 1812, the last time we were attacked. Everything after that is bullshit.

My coworker got last minute approval to take the 4th off (his scheduled work day) and I got forced into taking his shift (my scheduled day off) because they don't have anyone else.
That said, I didn't have any plans for the 4th anyways, it just still really pisses me off.

Personally, out of principle, I don't think any American should work on the 4th, Memorial Day, Labor day (especially), or Veteran's Day.
Reading other comments told me OP's opinion on these holidays; but I think it's the principle that's important, not the reality. Lots of people served because they thought they were doing the right thing - not because they were bad people.

I'm aware labor day is a union holiday. I'm also not fond of modern unions, they've become shit. But the reasoning behind labor day is more important than the union faggotry. A recognition of laborers and their impact on the building and function of a nation is important. It was also originally a celebration of a break free from the wage slavery that occurred in the 1800s with things like company scrips and stores.
The fact that you can only come up with "It's about union faggotry" tells me that they've done a good job making people forget a significant portion of its actual creation was about not being wage slaves to corporate assholes.

Hard apple cider is a quintessentially American beverage. John Chapman, aka Johnny Appleseed, spent his life starting apple orchards, specifically apples for cider. Most of the groves were destroyed during prohibition and when modern growers decided to get in the hard cider business, it's taken years for the new groves to start producing.

I'm not the guy who yells "buy American" like a jingoistic chant, but in this case, hard cider is a heritage and it's worth something.
