The thing is, if these people were independent, atomized homesteaders that were compelled to toil on their own land to achieve self sufficiency, they wouldn't be happy there either.

The reason why the wage slave system won is because people were lured away from agricultural life with the promises of abundance one could obtain from a currency driven urban life.

Over time, this currency driven existence has been squeezed to its limits, and the constant efforts to maximize efficiency in all aspects of the system has created this near-zombie-like condition.

I'm not saying I'm for it. I fucking hate it. But I don't think people understand that we are basically domesticated animals at this point and a lot of them wouldn't survive out in the wild. That's why the system will never revert back. There are too many people unwilling to brave the chaotic turmoil of independent life and there are too many people that simply have nothing to gain by giving up their domesticated livestock status.
