As an adult, I always laugh at anything about shekels.

When I was 19, I dated this girl whose mother is jewish. The three of us were at the mall one day doing some shopping. I had some pennies in my pocket and thought it would be funny to see how far I could get them to roll. So I just threw one to see.

As that penny rolled down the carpeted mall floor, my girlfriend's mom was like, "What are you doing?! You're throwing away money!" and she started chasing after that penny.

I thought it was so funny that I threw a couple more just to watch her chase them down.

I didn't know shit about jews back them. Here I am years later, thinking about that moment every time I see someone talking about shekels.
