No, thousands of tons, plastic is just air to that, it would be easier to use thermite to remove a section of track than cast a durable steel derailer, cast iron would just crack, I doubt it would derail a train.

Thermite is how they weld track together, find an abandoned line and practice, make sure you can cut the line in short order and do it in a place where a fallen branch can cover the missing track from view of the operator a bend is best.

Probably need a good truck and 3 men to get the time optimal(including set up), an explosives expert could do it solo using debt cord to time the ignition of thermite and be ready to gun the truck to rip out the rail on time. A good crew could probably take out 5 lines in one night if they had access to schedules, maybe only 3 amtrack only lines though, freight gets run all hours on most lines, you don't want to get caught doing this and after you do it once expect surveillance to go up so multiple in a night would be ideal.

It might just be easier to put cars on the tracks after higher speed turns or drop a number of trees after a low speed turn.
