if you own you home and need to change your central hvac, do it now.

submitted by goatfugee12 to whatever 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 10:45:33 ago (+45/-1)     (whatever)

Next year the federal government is enforcing a change to HVAC energy efficiency rating system, and in 2025 they enforcing a "green" freon change.

All of the major manufacturers are having to redesign ALL of their equipment to meet these new efficiency ratings and most of them have decided that since they are going to have to re-redesign these systems in 2 years because of the required freon changes in 2025 they are going to go ahead and implement that freon change next year as well. In other words commie faggots are making home ownership more expensive for the sake of "going green"

Since march of 2020 the holocough hoax and soaring inflation have caused HVAC equipment to increase ~60% across all brands. Now with the fed's requiring effeciency and freon changes you are looking at another 50% increase in prices.

So that means if a new central HVAC system (not counting labor cost for install) would have cost you 3k in 2019 at the start of 2023 is going to cost you over 6k. That also means all the materials the tech was going to use to install that has gone up.

Buy now if you can, the new equipment will be full of problems in the fist year, it always is and it will be outragously priced.

FYI: Trane brand is already planing to implement equipment leasing....

You will own nothing and be happy.

My whole house A/C replacement, minus new duct work, was around 6k three years ago.

It is going to get hot boys

Summer nights are usually around 53 F. Low to mid 70s during the day.

Equipment leasing may not be such a bad idea, especially if the equipment is not reliable. Of course, depends on the lease terms...

I find this doubtful, unless you are talking about a mini split with precharged lines you didn't spend $2000 on tools to use once. Unless ofc you had help from some one with trade specific tools.

I had to get a new AC last summer. My house is only 1700 sq ft and it cost me $6k.

Don't forget about the R22 ban.

[ - ] goatfugee12 [op] 2 points 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 11:37:03 ago (+2/-0)

they haven't made R22 in the states since Jan 1 of 2020. It's still out there but is up about 400% since march 2020. There are replacements out there but those are also up 200-400%

Trane brand is already planing to implement equipment leasing

50 dollars a month is all you need to heat your home this winter! Also includes 3 months of Netflix and Spotify!

[ - ] RedBarchetta 1 point 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 21:33:28 ago (+1/-0)

R-22 Freon has been illegal for fucking years! They make a different version of it. They will have a compatible solution in place long before they ban it. Make no mistake. Take HVAC away from the rich, there will be consequences.

Here in California we are using a substitute and it had some stumbles, you would never know the difference now. Its even cheaper than R22.

Gonna need some sources for that, dawg. Not because I care this time but because I wanna read up on it. Why? Because I literally replaced mine last week.

R600 Isobutane for your refrigerator and R454B Puron Advance for heat pumps and air conditioners. Both flammable. Supposedly zero ozone depletion rates. 454B is not a drop in replacement and lacks the efficiency of 410A. Prepare for setting the thermostat higher or risk a seized or inefficient compressor.

Go study for the EPA 608 exam. The type 1 test is open book and the license will allow you to buy refrigerant. Obviously there's more to it and there are laws concerning the transportation of refrigerants. Then find an hvac guy you can slip a 20 spot to who can recharge your system with the refrigerant you have on hand. Hope that helps. But its total hippie bullshit.

I actually live in the middle of nowhere and don't give a shit what the government thinks. But I do have a house in the PNW that I go to for the summer, and this is good advice...so long as I keep that house....

Is this separate from them already getting rid of freon?

[ - ] big_fat_dangus 0 points 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 14:03:43 ago (+0/-0)

Joke's on you, I have ductless hot water heat which means window units only. 😰

[ - ] La_Chalupacabra 0 points 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 13:33:25 ago (+0/-0)

What, exactly, makes a refrigerant "green" compared to others?

[ - ] 2Drunk 1 point 1.8 yearsJun 28, 2022 15:16:12 ago (+1/-0)

It barely works and needs constant maintenance.
