I saw the fake teak show at a boat show, back when boat shows were still a thing. I wanted to have my deck redone with that stuff... but then I saw someone's boat where they did that and it looked fake as fuck. That's probably completely different stuff, but similar idea, I suppose.

No, it's "medium density fiberboard" its the shit that swells up and turns to sawdust (because that's what it is).
As far as the fake teak, is it that foam stuff for decking? Or the laminate sort of stuff?

The fake teak is just some creatively fibrous plastic polymer stuff. Ostensibly with uv protection. It looks okay on big white plastic boats, but it would look stupid on mine next to all the real hardwoods (that I need to sand and varnish again).

Yeah, that's what I meant by laminate stuff and I agree, it doesnt fit with actual wood. There is something about wooden boats that just sets them miles apart from fiberglass.

I agreed once, but I am jealous of my plastic boat neighbor when he just takes off on a cruise, without weeks of sanding and varnishing beforehand like I always do. Gotta show up presentable, wherever we're sailing to! I thought that this boat would help keep me fit; I didn't plan to also buy a house at the time...

In French, meuble is furniture, with the word meaning movable. Immeuble is an apartment block or something -- not moveable. I think of Ikea as immoveable furniture. You can set it up once, and it basically even works provided you don't beat on it too much. But ya can't move it to another house. The stuff isn't structurally sound enough to survive in a moving van, unless you were to baby it like a plasma TV -- which you wouldn't do because it's POS furniture.

you know popcorn maybe a pain but in some cases it can look good if done right. we used to have a friend of the family that had popcorn roof in his house and it didnt looked bad. but that was years ago, in the 90's when it was fashionable

Shop vac? You spray the ceiling with water and scrape it off onto plastic covered floors. No shopvac involved. Also, never seen it on walls, but yeah, that guy needs his balls kicked in.

How Vermiculite Ceilings are Made

A vermiculite ceiling is made by spraying a textured finish onto the ceiling after construction. Although this finish was used between the 1950s and the early 1980s, it rose to the height of its popularity in the 1970s. At the time, there were good reasons for its widespread use.

The vermiculite it contains is a great insulator and doesn’t burn. The finish’s bumpy texture was also a cheap and easy way to hide imperfections in the ceiling.

What wasn’t known then, though, is that vermiculite is often contaminated with a cancer-causing substance known as asbestos. Thanks to mounting evidence of the health damage asbestos causes, spray-on asbestos ceiling products were finally banned with the Clean Air Act amendments of 1978.

So if your popcorn ceiling was installed before 1979, there’s a good chance it contains asbestos-contaminated vermiculite. Because existing stocks of spray-on material were exempt from the ban, it’s also possible a ceiling installed any time in the 1980s could contain asbestos.

Modern popcorn and other textured ceilings installed after this time are made with Styrofoam, cardboard or another harmless material.

You know there's this old-fashioned thingy called a broom, right? Sweep up most of it first and then vacuum up the bits you missed. And water may make it easier to remove but it also makes it harder to clean up.

Also, pay attention to how much a room echoes before and after you popcorn-coat the ceiling.
