There really should be a very big wall between reporting on the news and having your opinion on it

Theses news anchors carry to much influence, politicians will ignore the concerns of thousands of their voters but one anchor has a meltdown and they bend over backward to appease these people that obviously hate them and will always have a new grievance to keep them on the back-foot always apologizing followed by appeasement.

They are not beholden to elections and basically unaccountable to anyone except their network, i think its a gross misuse of their position to do anything but report the news as straight facts without any opinions, opinion pieces should have a disclaimer this program is opinion based media and be kept away from any news broadcasting shows with at least an hour break between them, their also should be restrictions on how they advertise opinion based shows too,

These programs have made everything so hyper-partisan in such a short time, its time they start having real restrictions on their reach.

I got a degree in Journalism. We actually had to take ethics classes, though as soon as I graduated I learned no one really gives a fuck. I left the industry a long time ago and only ever worked as a researcher.

Also the people on tv are incredible morons and one of the news anchors in my hometown had a son that was a major criminal and ruined his career.

Trouble is that, to have any kind of accountability on this, you would have to empower someone or something to enforce it. And that means creating an even more centralized body that has the power to decide what is and what isn't valid news. IE, a ministry of truth. Which is what the leftists want, because of course they would immediately subvert it for their purposes.

That's the reason speech must be free and all censorship must be opposed, absolutely.

The only cure for disinformation is freedom of information.

The disinformation happens because news isn't profitable. But propaganda is. Even with freedom of speech, it is difficult to fight the massive saturation of bullshit.

There's a high demand for real information. I think the main reason propaganda is so much more abundant right now isn't that it's more popular but because true information faces aggressive censorship, while the propaganda does not. The solution isn't more censorship, but less.

If any legislation could fix the situation, it would be something like requiring news articles to have comment sections, and enshrining in law that any opinions expressed must remain completely unmoderated. Let them push whatever opinions they like in their articles, but force them to also publish what the people think about it.

The supply of real information is via charity. People like you and me shit posting for free. That struggles to compete with the profit motive of propaganda.

Mandated comment sections would be flooded with bots to drown out information. Some curation is necessary. It is a very difficult problem.

And not even on YouTube anymore, can you find raw Data of events. You can only find a distorted, filtered version of the news.

For example the Maga hat kid, or the Rittenhouse video. Or even the George Floyd.

Correct. But, if they're just journaling events then it's not injecting the authors opinions directly into the readers mind. Instead of telling people what to think on a subject, it's this thing happened. Problem then becomes with ignoring events. If nobody knows that a law was passed, then nobody will be able to form an opinion on that.
