So what do you think would happen if you commit a crime with a gun and then immediately sell it in a gun buyback program?

Assuming you were not indentifiable while committing the crime?

No weapon, no crime, right?

You lose a gun.

I thought this was an obvious way of disposing of guns used in crimes.

But why not just change out the barrel?

According to forensic tv shows, there is now a database of extractor "prints" and also firing pin "prints" being kept.

Anything that touches another part of the weapon or projectile is now being scooped up into a searchable database for matches.

Extractors and firing pins are a lot cheaper than barrels.

Zero, the turned in weapon is dismantled on sight & s/n# recorded, then taken to the destroyer, where lower & receiver are pulverized.

Either nothing or if the serial number was already in a database they might check (or check later) and you would get arrested.

No questions asked is what I understand the buybacks to be.

And of course the government always plays by the rules.

If they know the information without needing to ask you questions, that policy may be irrelevant

You are a criminal genius.
