smaller isn't necessarily better. speeds haven't really been increasing, and moore's law has been dead for years. my 2020 computer isn't really any better or worse than my 2010 computer. these are just small incremental improvements. what is really needed is some breakthrough tech to usher in quantum computing and/or improved AI.

That's not exactly true. AMD replicated their success with the Athlon64 when they designed the Ryzen processors. More instructions per cycle. This is only possible with more transistors despite the same clock rate.
I agree that it is an improvement, but like I said, a small incremental improvement. compared to Moore's law, my opinion is that isn't really that big of an accomplishment.
