Largest Pork Company in the US Shuts Down California Plant Due to High Costs

In my opinion, since “x” amount of supply will be removed from the market across the country, the equivalent amount should be withheld from these states, especially Cali. Fuck them, they voted for the regulations, let them pay $25/lb for pork.

The spokesman pointed to Proposition 12, a 2018 voter-approved rule, which mandated that food processing companies confining pigs and sows must have adequate spaces for the animals to lie down and move around.

IIRC, it wasn't just for animals raised and slaughtered in California, it covered all animals and meat imported into the state, too, which makes this move a no-brainer on the company's part.
If I'm not mistaken, there was a similar law recently passed that covered chickens and eggs.

Eh that actually sounds reasonable on the surface. I dont want my meat to have been confined and tortured where it cant even stand.

I'm in favor of Prop 12...but more in favor of anything that in any way hurts Commissar Newsom...especially in the wallet.

I'll just leave this here...."Smithfield Foods, the largest U.S. pork producer, has been owned by a Chinese company, WH Group, since 2013."

It's no secret that there is a common belief among Chinese that torturing animals improves the flavor.
Why would such a people put in charge of meat production in the Western market have any qualms about practices that would result in stress hormones in their products (which has a noticeable adverse impact on the flavor, texture, and appearance)?

Imagine if 4 out of every 5 people you meet were Ralph from The Simpsons. And every one of them thinks they're special, useful, unique, and part of "the change".

That's why California is the way it is. "They're helping!"

this is jews who run California trying to kill the pork business. the vegans are working with them. the Chinese will unironically solve this because they eat the fuck out of pork.

I have a mate who manages a piggery in nz.

The government is constantly making it difficult to stay in business with anti business laws and regulations

Fun fact: China and UK are the only pork producing countries which ban porcine (pig) growth hormones.
China has even issued death sentences to importers of black market hormone fed pork.
Why?
