99% of alt tech is alt controlled

But it says on their website "If they don't have the app they'll receive a simple email."

Well that just goes to show then, that the email server will have your email in plaintext.

So delta.chat is only half of the equation. The other is either setting up an email server or using one that can be trusted to not be penetrated.

One could adopt open source GPG on top of it so plaintext on the email server side is just encrypted gibberish.

It's hard to do and doesn't make for a friendly chat unless automated. Also allows for your leaky phone or computer to be easy point of failure.

In the end I would advocate for setting up your own email server and perhaps something like this. Haven't looked into it.

At the end of the day, if you use somebody's email server, you are still relying on that server with your emails
