[ - ] o0shad0o 0 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 10:01:56 ago (+0/-0)

Yup, and the cab overhangs the front wheels on that bus which makes it appear like it's sliding sideways during a turn.

Why is the video subtitled in Chinese, and the places are like "Tuen Mun"?

[ - ] lord_nougat 3 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 19:37:53 ago (+3/-0)

That's just how fast he's going that he drove all the way to china!

[ - ] Clubberlang 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:52:12 ago (+3/-1)

It's all chink to me

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 00:01:09 ago (+2/-0)

how did you know that? You some kind of commie pinko?

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 02:02:29 ago (+1/-0)

The one with more lines and more symbols is Chinese. Japanese is like an alphabet, so you'll see repeating characters. Except that sometimes the Japs write Commie because reasons. That's all I know.

Pretty sure this is how my wife thinks I drive through the mountains.

She's not too far off.

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 19:38:32 ago (+2/-0)

You actually drive about twice this speed.

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:08:17 ago (+2/-0)

Perk of southern California mountains: pavement is nice and well marked. It makes it easier to go swiftly and smoothly. I'll only go as fast as my tire grip allows.

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:12:23 ago (+2/-0)

oh fuck yes. Have you ever done Glendora Mountain Pass? Might not still be open, I've not been there in a few decades, but I used to ride my motorcycles at irresponsible velocities up around there. That one was my favorite, but there are 4 or 5 other really good ones just in the general vicinity.

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:34:42 ago (+2/-0)

Haven't really looked into any bonafide places. The paved roads through the Santa Monica mountains is fine enough for me. Hardly any traffic at night and maybe 30 minutes from my house.

I can also brag about "driving through Malibu" to my midwestern friends.

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:46:51 ago (+2/-0)

Oh yeah, that's super nice, too [off hours]. That's where my friend who has a place in Santa Monica drives his Porsches early in the morning on Sundays 'on his way to church'. I mean, it's sort of on his way, but it sounds pretty great.

Back in the day, I lived right at the base of Mt Baldy, so the roads in that area and further inland were more my favorites at the time. I watched LA burn from up there during the 90s riots. Married my wife up there as well, way down a little path that is only accessible via motorcycle, because there's just no room to park a car anywhere on that little road in that area, but the bike could be parked off the road a bit just fine there, and the little path led to the prettiest little clearing with a waterfall. The pavement was pretty iffy in spots, and there were dreaded sand patches on certain corners, but after I rode that road a few times, I got used to what was where, and what areas I could get away with going way too fast without killing myself.

I road those malibu roads as well, but never at the good times, so dumb scary cars and slow RVs made that less fun. But we got to have a little picnic on some rocks in Malibu once, also where cars couldn't park, and there were a ton of dolphins. That was a weird day; the bolt that held on my distributor rotor disappeared at some point and I couldn't start the thing for the return trip until I noticed Lady_Nougat was chewing some bubblegum, so I asked for some of that to just gloop the rotor in enough to get us home with that, and it worked! Turns out that bolt was inside the airbox... BMW wanted what I considered to be a ridiculous sum to replace that bolt when I called them so I was glad to have found it there. Loctite [and maybe a little bubblegum residue] kept the bolt in place from then on without issue. I miss that bike, it was pretty excellent.

Descriptions like this are making me believe there are redeeming qualities to this state.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 01:13:39 ago (+1/-0)

Oh, there totally are!

We must simply eradicate the communists.

Mount Berryessa was fun

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 22:01:20 ago (+1/-0)

Had to look that one up, but I think me and a friend of mine rode that one on an epic trip we made way back when. Our aim was to get to Alaska from LA via highway 1, but taking every windy road we found along the way just for fun, and then pitching tent wherever we found a spot when it got too dark and cold and we were tired. We accidentally caped in some farmer's yard the night before that by accident. It was pitch black and we couldn't see anything... I don't think they were home. But we got the fuck out at sun up as soon as we realised what we'd done, worrying we could get shot.

Pretty sure that Berryessa road is just a big loop and didn't help us get further north really, but we didn't care, it was fun. I had a hard time keeping up with him on his jap bike at speed on that road, but he could hardly keep up with me on easier highways, because BMW motorrad master race!

Did that kinda road trip years back. Flew in from Seattle. Friend was in the inland empire. Rented a car and started driving south hitting every beach we could. Some reason we said fuck San Diego and ended up in TJ with the rental car. Good times.

[ - ] rhy 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 02:30:44 ago (+1/-0)

I'm pitching a tent right now!

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 02:43:09 ago (+0/-0)

Sleep well.

May there not be too many jagged cold rocks or thorny sticks under your tent this night!

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 01:42:42 ago (+2/-0)

[ - ] lord_nougat 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 02:39:26 ago (+2/-0)

Gorgeous looking country.

May it too one day be free from the communism.

I really wanted to sail there once. It almost seems like a distant memory from a previous lifetime now, but I hope it can be a possibility one day.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 2 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 03:54:06 ago (+2/-0)

California is pussy shit. Try some island driving in the 3rd world, lol

I got on this bus one time, and emblazoned on the windshield was the local equivalent of "We Go with God." Seemed appropriate given the state of their roads. It was also more of a converted van, like a prison van, than a bus.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 21:51:26 ago (+1/-0)

Didn't see any drifting

[ - ] PearofAnguishJuniorManager 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 20:06:21 ago (+1/-0)

Last run before retirement of his 30 year route. The tires, the road, the mountain itself; they’re all his bitch.

[ - ] dulcima 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 19:00:12 ago (+1/-0)

That's a chink.

[ - ] eongoat 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 17:37:32 ago (+1/-0)

This is West of Hong Kong. Couldn't find the exact road but the 2 locations are between mountains.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 1 point 2.9 yearsJun 6, 2022 15:29:59 ago (+1/-0)

That road looks fucking wild.

[ - ] Peleg 0 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 08:06:58 ago (+0/-0)

They are on their way to disney!
They can't Wait to get to the rides so he is giving them a pre-ride ride!
Haha.

[ - ] Teefinyomouf 0 points 2.9 yearsJun 7, 2022 02:09:44 ago (+0/-0)

I drove Highway 1 in a 40 ft motorhome. There were curves where sight of the road disappeared under the bus in my side mirrors. This road is actually worse than that. He's taking the front all the way to the guard rail because if he didn't the back wheels would go off the cliff.
