Not sure why this was downvoted. It's true, boomers are well known for being narcissistic. But then, a huge portion of the US population of all generations are pretty narcissistic.

If you read my post about Dr Spock's baby and child care book, boomers have a reason to. They were raised by parents who took bad advice, and used that same bad advice to raise their children. Again, I'm not defending boomers, but I'm just explaining that this sort of thing needs to be taken in context. If they were shitty parents, it's because that's how they were raised. They thought they were doing great because that's how they were raised.
As compared to what generation? What generation isn't "pretty narcissistic"? To some degree, there's an amount of narcissism that's healthy. What separates boomers from "healthy narcissism" is the fact that they seem to be completely narcissistic ... to the point that they are not just watching and doing nothing, but actively participating in the downfall of the generations that follow them.
It's not that they've tried nothing and are out of ideas, which would be heinous enough, but that they are going along with it all because it benefits them. There's a psychic break with that generation that defies my best attempts to understand it. In my mind, narcissism is characterized by self-centeredness, self-absorption, lack of empathy, and failure to take responsibility for one's actions. How can any of that be "health narcissism"? This all sounds very pathological.
All of those things you just listed are needed at times, when warranted and needed in ways that make sense. Self-interest, in and of itself, isn't inherently negative. For instance, you can't help others if you can't even help yourself. Self-interest needs to be balanced by a healthy amount of selflessness. But selflessness can be negative as well, if taken too far.
With the boomer generation in general, we see an example of narcissism taken so far to the point of being literal mental illness to my mind. As in, you can't use logic to understand it. Besides self-preservation, there should be some sense of preservation of the species, and yet that's lacking with that age group. It's as if that part of the brain has been removed.
I can understand being late to the game, or struggling to put all the pieces together, but right now, in this moment, with everything as out in the open and on the table as it is...what I can't understand is the complete dissociation with the severity of the general situation...AND THEN...the fact that they are in fact going along with every facet of it.
Our election was stolen, our government is literally illegitimate, the enemy isn't just at the gates, they're inside and killing us...and the best that age group can seem to do is just shrug... which would be horrible, but it gets worse.
As far as I can tell "they" have set everything up to make sure that's the only generation with any financial power. If you're were born after 1990 you've never, as an adult, known anything like the economic situation they lived their whole lives with. You have no ability to put your money to some sort of solution, because you don't have the extra income older people do. Now...those older people could do something with that money, but it's as if the idea doesn't occur to them.
It's beyond obvious that the status quo way of living their lives is killing any chance younger people had at what used to be a normal existence, like...the older people have to be able to see this...but they just continue on that way. And there's nothing anyone could say that would ever explain this to me, but I can't fathom being that narcissistic as a group. It's not that there are individual narcists, that happens with every generation and all groups of people. It's the complete thoroughness with that age group that I don't understand. And honestly, I've given up trying to understand. I'm not sure I want to anymore.

I'll give you a cliff notes version so maybe you'll have an easier time grasping it: Narcissim is healthy when it's not taken to the point of being a pathology. When it's expressed in ways that both benefits the individual and society itself in the sense that that person is no longer a burden on society, and can, in fact, get to a point where they can take what they've built in life and turn it around to benefit society. Historically, that is in the form of charity.
