E-sports. Imagine thinking that's normal. We use to joke about how NASCAR was classified as a sport. By comparison, I'm wondering why NASCAR isn't an Olympic event. We done fucking forgot the definition of sport.

What's wrong with NASCAR? Do you think only physical competition should be considered a sport?

What's right with NASCAR? It's cucked beyond repair. And yes, I do think only physical competition should be considered a sport. Words have meaning. That's why we have words like sports, races, and games. In case you haven't noticed, it's dangerous to get careless with the definition of words. We have a supreme Court Justice that can't define the word "woman" because we've allowed society to water down it's definition.

Sport is not a term with an exact definition. I'd call it more of a competition, or competitive video gaming, but that's a mouthful. You can say "esports" without being confused as to what it is and isn't.

Seriously though, I used to joke about France being uptight about language, but it's actually a major part of having a distinct culture and people. It's also a way to be exclusive to your people while sidestepping attacks for being racist.

Throw a German language event in America for example. It's going to only involve people who seriously give a shit about being German. You might get a couple niggers but not many and they will be the ones who try hard to assimilate and not be an embarrassment.

A lot of the politics right before WW2 centered around German speaking people who weren't actually in Germany. They felt like the same people. Even today in Ukraine a lot has been said about the regions that speak Russian to demonstrate that it's different people there.

Protecting your language is the same as protecting your culture.

That said, the French aren't going to have a good time trying to force a French version of slang words if some committee thought it up. They need organic French slang as a replacement if they want it to have the intended effect.

I absolutely agree. American English has become mongrelized over the decades, and the French are trying to avoid that. The Belgians and the Dutch take considerable pride in how they speak and preserve the linguistic heritage and even have game shows based on correct grammatical usage. In fact, Belgians believe they speak Dutch better than the Dutch do.

They don't have a single culture, though. Half the speakers are African, there's a bunch of Canadians, and then you have non-French Francophone Europeans.

That's beside the point. The existence of Eminem doesn't mean that rap is no longer an element of nigger "culture"

You're surrendering culture war ground without a fight when you look at it like that. You should see the other francophones as being dominated by French culture, or badly wanting to be a part of it because it's superior to whatever they have.

And on the point of Canadians, speaking French is a very strong cultural binder for them and constantly bleeds over into their politics. I think they help make my point.

1. French people, not some academy, should decide French.

2. For decades, French people have been saying "Bon week-end!" to each other on Friday afternoon. The academy should explain its failure to address that word.

It cannot be for lack of a word for "week", given that the same breath can output the phrase "la semaine prochaine".
