And heavy armaments. Being self sustaining doesn't mean anything if someone can just take it from you.

Like Bill Clinton told the military, don't ask, don't tell.

If you don't know how to fight all you're doing is gathering supplies for the toughest guy on the block.

[ - ] Teefinyomouf 5 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 06:42:07 ago (+5/-0)

The toughest guy will be the regime police. They'll have official looking uniforms and badges and they'll claim you're breaking their laws. They'll say you're hoarding food and supplies. They'll take it all for their buddies. You'll just get a) additional travel restrictions meaning you have to stay in place and starve to death, 2) arrested and sent to reeducation, 3) killed on the spot.

If you know how to fight that's probably the best outcome but you'll still be dead and your stores will go to your enemy. You may kill a few and that's some consolation, but they'll still get your stuff aka mission accomplished.

So more than knowing how to kinetically fight, you need to be able to quickly destroy your stores. That's part of fighting too. You need it booby trapped and self-destructable on command.

And it must be well hidden so hopefully it won't come to this.

If you eliminate enough police soon they won't be able to recruit more police

Neat concept eh?

Don't get too deep in any one thing.

- Ensure you have a long term water source. - Gutter storage - 55 gallon barrels with several water filters, 5 gallon carboys filled, Water Bob's for bathtubs, etc etc.

- Have a years worth of rice/lentils and beans with cans of food you are rotating and also freeze dryed food (if you can afford it). I like Mountain house. Good for 25-30 years. Buy it and stuff it in a corner. GTG. I've got all that covered and much more, so I bought gas masks and 3 cases of bourbon and it's stored as well...just because. There's lists on the internet and that's worth examining and ticking off the items, you don't want to be sitting there without a fire because you didn't stock up on bic lighters LOL.

- At least one pistol, one shotgun and one rifle. 1000 rounds minimum of ammo for each. Feel free to stock over 20,00 rounds for each, I did that until I sold a bunch off, and you'll save space if you buy a locking storage cabinet and have the ammo in military ammo boxes. My advice would be a Glock 19, Mossberg 12 ga 500/590 model, and an AR-15 -the cheapest solid choice likely being a S&W 2. Get a .22 cal exchange kit for the Ar and you'll have 4 calibers to stock. 9mm, 12ga, 5.56 and .22. Buy a range of ammo, but the 9mm should tend towards hollow points like the Federal HST. The 12ga should have a range, but include both buckshot and birdshot. If you wind up with a Sig P365, a 870 and a Ruger AR-15- that's fine. If you get 12 AR-15's and 23 handguns in all kinds of calibers thats even better. Just get on it and make sure you are well practiced in what you get. I've settled on SA-DA pistols and train for that. Except for 2 high end target pistols and a tiny mouse gun, every pistol I own is SA/DA. If you want to carry 1911's, fine by me, but I don't and sold my Wilsons and Les Baers etc so that I have only one platform to train my muscle memory.

- Get replacement parts for anything and everything mechanical. That includes tires for bikes and if you don't have a bike, get one.

- Plant edible plants in all areas you might wind up in. Sunchokes, Camas, and Wapato are things to start you out. Plant them in local parks, on streambanks, hillsides, both your own and in neighbors yards if you think they can grow and be self-propagating. No one will know that they are your stealth food. In a crisis, you'll be well fed.

Once you have all that covered, then gold, US Treasury 1 bonds, Nasdaq stock fund, and various cryptos. For myself, having multiple houses in various locals has paid off well and I'd suggest having land or a well stocked house within a 5 day walk of an urban city where you can retreat to- but pick carefully and ensure you have solid neighbors.

Train your body and mind to not get too riled up in a crisis -the internet will give you lots of direction on this. Go camping on weekends, even if it's just near a road, it will reinforce things you may need in a crisis that you don't commonly consider. Like sleeping bags and can openers etc etc. Try and fix things that break instead of simply tossing and replacing. I've found that an enjoyable hobby, having fixed a battery charger and an electric shaver recently.

Careful with the bic lighters, I've heard stories about them being about empty when bought in bulk. The fluid doesn't seem to last in them.

I ended up going with refillables where I can store the lighter fluids separately and have more faith on that front.

Spot on though.

Food with a long shelf life. Toilet paper, doesn't expire and will only get more expensive. Service parts for your car/truck - tires, oil, filters etc - the prices will only go up. Sturdy, everyday clothing and shoes/boots.

[ - ] Prairie 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 06:16:56 ago (+1/-0)

Cigarettes, as currency. They will only get more expensive.

[ - ] PawpawMan 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 12:24:08 ago (+1/-0)

I'd say alcohol over cigs, way more people drink than smoke these days

first, self-sustainability. you need to be able to make your own food just in case they choose to collapse the economy.
second, silver. you need land to be able to make your own food, and they tax your land. if they decide to collapse the economy, they will make it impossible for you to pay your taxes so that they can seize your land. you can use the silver to pay your taxes when they decide to remove your income sources.
third, stocks. if they decide not to crash the entire economy, then stocks will give you the best ROI.
right now they are basically just using threats on the economy. we are no where near a collapsed economy. they are just flexing on us at the moment. thus, stocks are your best option, but there is extreme danger in stocks due to their fragility as a result of their value being entirely in the hands of the jews. the jews will burn the entire world to the ground before they let anyone else have control over it.

Land that you can farm or harvest preferably with a water source. A means to defend said land. They will try to take it from you and if you can become self sufficient with a means to defend it you're doing well.

[ - ] xmasskull 1 point 2.0 yearsJun 1, 2022 23:31:15 ago (+1/-0)

And just what is a great defence? A superior offence, plus a few heads on fence posts can't hurt either.

[ - ] wonderfuldonut 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 3, 2022 20:40:56 ago (+0/-0)

Precious metals, if you can a silver or gold coins, stuff that can be traded cigarettes, alcohol etc. plus an amount of cash.

People keep harping on about crypto, but if the power system fails, crypto and atms will be worth diddly squat.

[ - ] zr855 2 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 03:05:12 ago (+2/-0)

Bitcoin and precious metals.

[ - ] i_hate_sodomites 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 16:57:15 ago (+1/-0)

Like-minded neighbors. A lot of survivalists are fucking morons who think they're Rambo and will easily gun down the hordes by their little lonesomes; they'll be some of the first to die. You need hundreds, if not thousands, of like-minded individuals to build a community and form up a small army when needed - and it'll be needed, at least in the first few years.

Lone wolves are all dead wolves, they just don't know it yet.

[ - ] Banana_Who1 1 point 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 08:16:43 ago (+1/-0)

Since food and ammo were covered...
We have bubbles in stocks, bonds, commodities, and real estate not to mention inflation taking a bite out of your cash. US stock market is more overvalued than Great Britain or Japan. Growth is more risky than dividend and value funds. Real estate as shelter will always have utility value. 6-12 month living expenses in money market, CDs or TIPs, and 3 months in cash.

There are two goals, growth and value retention. I'll share an insight on value retention that few pick up on. The most neutral position you can take in value retention is to buy what you are going to buy. What do I mean?

Using fake numbers, if you spend 20% of your income on food, 15% of your income on gas 25% of your income on housing, and 40% on some other thing, then the most neutral position is to allocate 15% of your investments in oil, 20% in food commodities, 25% in real estate, and so on.

That way no matter what happens you can still buy with your savings the same amount of things you were going to buy, which is the definition of value retention.

In an ideal world you don't do that. You deviate from that by whatever amount you do based on what you think will have better growth. But at least then you know what your flight to safety is.

Essentially you are just buying everything ahead of schedule in a way that it's very cheap to liquidate if projected spending habits change or if you need that money to put in something more growth oriented.

The first rule is, don't be in USD. If you are worried about risk associated with being in your target verse USD, then the way to handle that is to hedge or diversify. Get out of USD to every degree you can as a principle.

I have it in the bank sitting and devaluing, but I am about to start investing in the stock market.

I ll invest a small amount at first, 1/5th of my savings. I have small expenses. A little one. Pay no rent. Own my flat. I also have family houses in villages where people share meet and veggies and fish all the time, so if all civilisation collapses I am pretty safe there.

Making money is different from being a preper.

Yes, I too believe that hyperinflation is coming, so I think that the first thing you should do, is ensure you have a rural safe place to stay.

But if that is not an issue, stock and real estate.

[ - ] mannerbund 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 09:57:58 ago (+0/-0)

It will depend a lot on how much you have, but getting to be mostly self-sustaining is a pretty critical component.

I put money into remodeling my pantry and food storage to accommodate radically more organized and longer-lasting food and supply stores, improved my solar generation situation with lithium batteries, and am working on gardening and water storage and collection.

On top, gun and bullet making, as well as at-home manufacturing on a small scale to aid with making parts and pieces for upkeep.

Tangible goods in hand are useful here and now, as well as into your future.

Stocks are only useful for your future, and they are not stable anymore. Similar with bonds, etc.

[ - ] Broc_Liath 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 09:02:02 ago (+0/-0)

As investments that you plan to sell later? Gold and crypto.

More generally? Self sufficiency.

[ - ] Empire_of_the_Mind 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 03:43:04 ago (+2/-2)

USD is safe for a year or two. If you're planning to live in the USA long-term you need to own where you live and have the tools to maintain it. Same with your cars and tools to maintain. If you want a computer of any type, phones included, buy it now as these can become more scarce very quickly.

US stocks are tanking, cash is better. USD will remain strong because the economies and currencies of peripheral states will fail first and all of the rich thieves in those places will rush their money into USD and American assets. This is already happening. By the time USD is about to collapse, it'll be plainly obvious so don't worry about overnight hyperinflation.

If you have a place to live, a paid for vehicle, and tools you are fine. Obviously having a pantry with food storage is necessary. Having flour, sugar, olive oil, and such basics is more important than anything else.

You should have a few thousand in cash on hand, a valid passport, a good bicycle, and books.

[ - ] x0x7 0 points 1.9 yearsJun 2, 2022 22:26:43 ago (+0/-0)

You know the US is looking to go commie right. When you buy land you are just buying a record in some county courthouse.

By the time USD is about to collapse, it'll be plainly obvious so don't worry about overnight hyperinflation.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious right now.
