Get more sunlight. 90% of depression is due to lack of sunlight. As a quick fix, you can get the 10,000 IU Vitamin D3 and take 1 pill a day for a week.
When I was younger I was diagnosed with major depression. Only thing that finally worked was sunlight, vitamin D and realizing there was no need in wallowing in the depression as it did nothing.
Exercise is also very good. I'd take some vitamin C regularly too.
Try it, it might work and it's simple. Also, get away from negative people and talk about positive things some.
We can take a lot more vitamin D than they have said.
Another quick fix is to go play a sport like pick-up basketball. You can't focus on your depression when you have to catch a ball coming at your face. Just general, friendly games--nothing super competitive. If you suck, just focus on defense and getting rebounds for your team. Everyone loves a guy that gets rebounds and passes the ball a lot.
I was suicidally depressed for about 8 years of my life: from 16-24. 1/3 of my life up to that point living in perpetual fear and shame.
I can't say what will help you through it because the root causes of everyone's depression and how to address it is different, but like most everyone here says, I say stay away from pills. They did nothing but further remove me from my emotions, causing more harm than benefit.
Several intensely spiritual psilocybin/LSD trips did more than anything to help me circumnavigate my emotional barriers and discover I was living in an existential crisis, emotionally stunted and unable to progress out of the rut. They gave me the tools to discover my roots causes and help empower me to bring about a paradigm shift that pulled me out of the abyss.
Not recommending hallucinogens to anyone though because you know your body and psyche better than me, but if you do choose to experiment, always treat them with the respect they deserve.
If you would ever like to talk to someone, I'd be happy to be a listening ear or to go into more detail of my experiences. You can fight this and win. The power is inside of you and nowhere else. Good luck and God bless, my dude.
I agree with your grandpa to a point. The work you do must have meaning and give you a sense of purpose. I'd go a step further and even suggest that the work you need to do must edify you in some way.
If you exist to merely "work all day" with no higher purpose, you're no better than the billions of mouthbreathing NPCs that sleepwalk through life.
I second this notion. Psychedelics are incredibly useful tools for untangling the psyche and triggering paradigm shifts in the positive direction. Just do a little bit of research so you know what to expect. Ego loss without expecting ego loss can be traumatic. If you know what it is though and know its a possibility, it's much easier.
Ego loss without expecting ego loss can be traumatic.
That happened to me when I was about 25. I had just been smoking regular weed with my neighbor... Don't know if it had something extra in it or if it was just a very potent strain. It took me a few weeks of research to figure out what had happened to me. It was a beautiful, incredible, life-altering experience, but without knowing it was coming, I was very freaked out afterwards. When I came back down to this frequency, I told my friend I was having a "spiritual identity crisis"!!!
Stop touching your genitals. Stop doing drugs, stop watching porn, stop consuming sugar. Exercise, start your own business. Only thing you should be depressed about is not having enough time in the day to build the life you want for yourself and your future
sounds like modern-day victim excuse, born this way bullshit, i am fat because of my parents etc.....bi polar is a retarded mood disease that is part of more psychological bull shit.....there are no physiological tests for it
you dont know shit about what are you talking about. bipolar disorder is not a made up mental disease. its real because i have seen it on people.
i was hospitalized and i saw every mental illness that is under the sun and yes some are genetical, others are sociological
let me tell you something....while hospitalized i saw a woman that just had lost her mate of several decades, this poor woman lost her mind because of that loss.
we would claim that she had lost her head and she didnt know how to find it. that sounded funny to me, i admit but the therapists corrected me as of the cause of that rambling
i also saw a depressed young woman that was there because of heavy drug usage. she and her boyfriend did heroin and cocaine and then she ended up in the mental side of the hospital because of it. the saddest part is that she had a child already and cared more about her habit than her child. also when she was depressed she barely had any strength to do anything
i also saw people being catatonic (unabled to move because of a schizo affective disorder)
i saw more but people like you are ignorant enough to see that the real world is more than what they imagine to be. sometimes our beliefs can be very very wrong...
Substance abuse is real, unresolved trauma is real, there is no chemical imbalance in the brain because there is no biological test you can take for the test to show you have a chemical imbalance. It is a behavior disorder. Which is diagnosed based on observation of character or behavior. Guess what? I just invented a new disorder anyone who discusses in anon forums has psychoactive social stimulation disorder. See how easy that was to create? It's the medical equivalent to making new genders. I once saw a shoe commercial and they had this whole video showing different shapes of toes and that if you had this certain shape of toe you had incorrect shoes. Well guess what? They listed every possible shape of toe a human could have in the commercial. See where I am going with this? They have cornered the human condition and have the ability to expand and recatageorize to fit whatever angle they are trying make money from. What is the BMI of your family members? Also it's very unlikely they'd get on antidepressants and not gain weight as a side effect which you guessed it, can cause further behavioral issues.
Ok, so let's get this straight. Our brains are coded for by DNA and some people are born with more capable brains because it runs in their family.
But unlike every organ in the human body brains are perfect, completely incapable of going wrong and there are no genetic disabilities associated with them.
Nope, not straw-man, satire. I rephrased your argument to make it's ridiculousness apparent even to you, but it's still your argument. Looks like I hit a nerve.
If one can recover back from being vegetable to fully functional person, why one can't recover from some mental issue too?
Because there's a difference between the brain learning a new route around a damaged area and the brain itself being fundamentally damaged from the get-go.
If your claim were true then there would be no congenital cripples.
Lots of ppl with mental issues they even don't know the cause of it, bc the origin of that issue is in their childhood, so treatment of that person can be completely wrong.. they usually "self-medicate" to totally another problem they come with to a doctor. Let me tell you a secret, most docs are paper worms with no life experience, so they prescribe as told.
No shit sherlock, doctors are wrong sometimes. How does this make the brain the only infallable organ in the human body exactly?
Your DNA gives you that you are more or less susceptible to something than others, but in my study years, or in fact later in life too, I haven't seen one mental case without some huge abuse, either in their childhood, or later with substances. But parents don't tell what they did, also ppl with issues hide facts... can be just "self-medicated" PTSD from childhood, presented later in life as some other issue.
I don't know what field your "study years" were spent in, but depression happens all the time without significant trauma to explain it. You're talking out of your ass.
that happened to me, lost my love I was 20+ years with since my 15. it literally felt a black hole is around me for a year or two, but it slowly healed without any pills or issues, its just truth and time that can heal.
So because you grieved once it's impossible for anyone to have a mental illness?
No shit time is speeding up it seems and not just us older folks are noticing. I'm 47 just turned and God damn time is flying... but I talked with a 24 year old he said the same thing. I swear something happend when Trump won he broke the matrix or threw a wrench in it things just went side ways from their on out
Or it's the commie revolution we are living through and we just don't know the war is going on
They sped up the news cycle. It used to be they'd recycle the same story for a few weeks at least. Now it's days of very high intensity coverage, then they move on to another one.
i just deal with it and yes antidepressants are dangerous and benzos are even worse
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THESE PILLS. they will kill your thyroid and make you feel like a fucking zombie
the benzos have a short shell life and if you go out of them cold turkey it can kill you ...yes literally
first find why are you depressed? are you assuming your gender? or want to take tranny hormones or cut your genitals....lets just say that's not teh way to go, dude
you might be pretty gay so man up take a bottle up testosterone and stop thinking about men LOL
joking aside, you seriously need to dig deeper and see what causes your depression and if you dont find a cause then it maybe chemical
do a blood test and see hows your thyroid, your B12 and vitamin D and acid folic doing in your metabolism.
those might be the culprit. if not, then it could be that your brain is fucked so. therapy sometimes helps you but again avoid the pills like the plague.
they can really mess you up even more. i have been dealing with clinical depression for over 35 years now and the only thing that anti depressants have done for me is to gain weight and feel like a "zombie"
its all trash.
personally, i pray, read my bible and have hobbies to keep me "busy"
when was in a hospital the therapists would tell us that idleness is not good for depressed people. also talk is very important, get a confidant so that you will have somebody that will understand what you are going thru
above all, never EVER lose hope. jesus christ loves you and he died on a cross for you and i. accept his gift of salvation and repent from your sins and i assure you that you will have a future and a hope.
Good for you. Antidepressants only work short term and then they poop out. Plus they have long term cognitive penalties. (Make you dumb)
I think of exercise as my antidepressant. If I didn’t exercise, then I didnt take my antidepressant and I have no expectation of feeling good about myself. Make sure you are taking critical “brain vitamins” like B vitamins and a high quality magnesium compound. Maybe some EFAs.
I’m on your side. Unless you’re dangus and then fuck you.
You might have a chemical imbalance in your brain. It doesn't mean you need antidepressants, but supplements can be really powerful. 25 bucks to try all this. This absolutely changed my life.
B-12 5000mg daily 5-HTP 200mg daily
L-tyrozine - this didn't work for me but some people swear by it. Might be worth a shot.
Most people are short on magnesium. If you are stressed, you might want to look into it. It helps to balance stress hormone.
If you are hard up, pm me an address and I will send an order to you. No questions asked.
That is literally a lie. What is the name of the chemical imbalance test and what is the baseline chemical structure that is required for the chemicals to be balanced? Then by that regard you'd only need to address the specific chemicals that are unbalanced or deviating from the baseline, which you can't do because there is no test and no baseline for chemical normalcy in the human brain to begin with. Yes supplements can be good but the chemical imbalance angle is nonsense
Literally every state other than balance is an imbalance, and that's taking action. For example, when you're standing still you're in balance. When you're walking, you're constantly falling, out of balance. The chemical imbalance was a lie that even the psychiatrists admit as such. The worst part is that so many normal people believe it.
Fwiw i benefit from low-dose ssri. And when i say “benefit” i mean decades of on-off different meds experience. I don’t like it but my life is much better this way.
- Lift - Meditate - Read some good books. Something for fun and something to get you out of what you're feeling. I was severely depressed for a long ass time and I read some shit to train my brain to stop thinking that way. I know it sounds like a bullshit copout but it worked.
1. quit the drugs, booze and smokes 2. hit the gym 3x a week + include cardio 3. drink only water - 64 fl oz per day 4. cook your meals 3x a day - push for organic and no processed/white sugar 5. sleep for 8.5 hours a night - in bed before midnight, up by 7am--- synch ur circadian with the natural sun 6. stop masturbating
Do that for 30 days ya faggot
7. If it is really bad, see a licensed therapist or psychologist that specializes in CBT.
then you are having sex......and not jerking yourself off. A lot more bonding chemicals like oxytocin are released giving you meaning and desire for that person. aka bonding
to mate: the action of animals coming together to breed; copulation.
"i can find a mate"
Check your wording. If you have a mate, you are trying to copulate. Your desire for ejaculation is a desire to abandon yourself, aka why you are always looking/searching for something to produce orgasm, the momentary loss of the self.
Don't spill your seed on yourself like a fucking impulsive monkey. No one said anything about suppressing sexuality, I said don't masturbate.
If that was a typo and you can't find one then that's what the high sex drive is for - it drives you to go find someone to bang and you're going to be uncomfortable until you do. Or you can hit the pressure release and cheat yourself out of the motivation that is meant to steer you towards an awesome life.
definitely do all the usual shit that helps: exercise, good diet, get outside, etc. But also sometimes you just feel down, it's normal, so unless this has been going on like a year it'll probably get better over time
Micro dosing psilocybin mushrooms has been the best for me. You don't need much at all, like 1/10th of a gram is more than enough, and the effect of that dose on depression lasts for months. No need to take a "trip" dose of anything, especially when you are feeling low. Look into it bro. I can go on about it if anyone is interested.
I've been there, firstly if bad stuff has happened in your life you will almost inevitably feel like you do and it's perfectly normal. The fact that you can talk about it is a good sign.
I had several personal incidents which caused me to become "depressed" and it was only after being told the UN-sugar coated truth by a work mate that I realised that only you can turn things around.
When you are feeling depressed it's as if you are in a hole or an ocean which you cannot escape. I offer you the vision of a muddy hole in which the people around you can either be spectators offering sympathy or a hand of help.
Most people around you will listen to you and offer nothing more than sympathy and and the end of any conversation will move on and your troubles will be of no consequence to them, and why would it be?
Other people will attempt to help you but you have to realise that they aren't in the mud, you are and if they are to really help you out they will end up with muddy hands. The last thing they want is to be covered in mud so you can only expect to receive a hand to grab they will not jump in and push you out. YOU NEED TO KICK AND DO THE HARD WORK. all the sympathy in the world will not help you from this place.
My father died when I was 19, he left for work earlier than usual one day because he caught me fucking some chick and was killed in a car crash. I blamed myself for that for several years and it was only after a co worker said to me that he probably left early to brag to his mates or tell them "my son isn't gay". It was the first time in years that I had thought about that incident and smiled and it was a weight off my mind.
This may or may not help you but there are plenty of us here who will take the time to talk to you and reach out a hand to help you out of the mud.
Don't bother. The depression does not leave, you just experience a lack of caring about being depressed. Like living in a constant state of numb...not happy, nor sad.
Working out or finding something to work on yourself will give better results.
I believe a lot of people's depression stems from a conscious (or unconscious) awareness of the absurd, surreal simulation of reality known as clownworld. If you're optimistic and "well adjusted" to the times we're in, you're way more fucking mental than the average depressed person.
Like you said, work on something and/or yourself. You can't improve your surroundings without first improving yourself. External discipline and order comes from internal discipline and order.

I am a musician, professionally. 60 beats per minute used to be slower. When I watch seconds on a clock, I can't believe how fast it is now.
Remember when you were a kid, counting with "Mississippi"? Try that now, while looking at a clock. It's very hard to fit Mississippi in there now.

- Meditate
- Read some good books. Something for fun and something to get you out of what you're feeling. I was severely depressed for a long ass time and I read some shit to train my brain to stop thinking that way. I know it sounds like a bullshit copout but it worked.

3. drink only water - 64 fl oz per day
4. cook your meals 3x a day - push for organic and no processed/white sugar
5. sleep for 8.5 hours a night - in bed before midnight, up by 7am--- synch ur circadian with the natural sun
6. stop masturbating
Do that for 30 days ya faggot
7. If it is really bad, see a licensed therapist or psychologist that specializes in CBT.

Also look out for psychotic depression lol

If that was a typo and you can't find one then that's what the high sex drive is for - it drives you to go find someone to bang and you're going to be uncomfortable until you do. Or you can hit the pressure release and cheat yourself out of the motivation that is meant to steer you towards an awesome life.

START KICKING AND REACH OUT

There is lots of beauty in the world. Learn about photography and light, you can make the mundane extraordinary.
Learn about or view art, artistic music and or artistic writing.
These help you see what you are missing.
Change your surroundings.
Take walks in nature.

Working out or finding something to work on yourself will give better results.

Like you said, work on something and/or yourself. You can't improve your surroundings without first improving yourself. External discipline and order comes from internal discipline and order.
