If you're wanting the other reason why we can't have an honest debate over this one, it's because, quite frankly, I don't think any of us on this side of the aisle believe you when you say that's all you want to do. It'll be bump-stocks and it'll be background checks. Then after that it'll be "we want to ban assault weapons." What's an assault weapon? Something that looks scary. Then after that, it'll be semi-automatic rifles. After that, it'll be semi-automatic handguns. Then it'll be revolvers, shotguns. Because when the policies fail produce the results you're PROMISING to your constituents, you'll be back with more reasons why we've got to infringe on Second Amendment rights.

The ATF also sent a cease and desist letter to several legit companies that sell 80% type kits claiming they are "readily convertible into firearms"

It's already happened/happening. It's called 2nd amendment sanctuary counties. Mine was the first to do it, and I believe a majority of counties also have: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_sanctuary

What it means is that those counties have flat out told their state and the federal government that they will officially not enforce gun laws they see as blatantly against the 2nd amendment of the constitution. That means, if they still want to enforce them, they will have to use their own agents...and good luck doing that. It's quite literally the line in the sand.

This is why I'm constantly repeating that if you want a revolution, do it locally. Make sure you can trust your local elections and even get involved. Make your local governments so strong that they feel comfortable doing what I linked to. We are much stronger than we think, and they'll do everything they can to stop us from realizing that. It will never seem like we're strong based on "the news".
