To kill some time while my cat was at the vet (he caught a fishing lure on a pole in the barn, sunk in pretty bad but mr. meow is doing ok now). Basketball American comes in and sells “his sons” bike. Lololololol. “He don’t ride it no mo” .. riiight.

To the shop, it's only stolen if someone comes in and claims it is. Then the shop pulls the ticket from the purchase, which will include the seller's ID.

had a bike of mine stolen once. They will walk right up the driveway in daylight and take it. No one writes down the serial numbers of bikes.

I’ve literally had that happen to me. Off a 2nd level balcony. Was young and broke as fuck, and that was how I got to work. Rolled around the neighborhood and low an behold, found it leaning against someone’s back porch. Recovered it and still have it to this day. Good advice to take pics of serials of stuff on the off chance the cops bother to run some numbers :/

Never got mine back, but I had a 2nd one I liked better anyway. First one only cost me $50 on craigslist and I didn't actually leave it on the driveway. someone who was borrowing it, to get to work, did, and they paid me for it.

Well , that's dumb not taking down the serial number then.
I've had several 'mid range' mountain bikes - i have documented all the serial numbers and photos for identification purposes.
One i 'found' in the Police lost and found after about 6 weeks after being stolen, Cops never even bothered to enter the serial number into the computer to have it flagged as stolen and the cunt at the desk didn't want to allow me to go into their store room to check - bc it would have already showed up on the computer if it was there.
I only got a chance to go down and look bc an older cop was going down already for a couple of other guys, and i guess got sick of listening to the other bitch try and fob me off when i said 'how do you know its not there if someone has already taken the number off' - it was- the number was still on and the bitch all of a sudden had to go on her lunch break while old fella filled out the paperwork. What a massive cunt.

Way back in the 90s, my one friend contacted me saying he wants a computer. Okay, fine. He wants to go to a pawn shop. I don't know pawn shops, but I follow. Holy shit. The pawn shop wanted literally close to full price for a computer system that was shit.

Good thing I went with my friend. He probably would have thought he was getting a bargain by haggling a bit or whatever. I just "screamed" at him not to buy it.
