What you want is absolutely fascist local government and a libertarian (ie barely existent) national government. Think about it. Which level of government actually does stuff for you? And to whom do you pay most of your taxes? If you live even remotely close to other people, and most people want to, the last thing you want is for them to be able to do whatever they want. The bears are a perfect example. You just can't disentangle from people that are close by to you. Nor should you want to. The government that's closest to the people is the most responsive. You want that government to have resources.

They were doing one thing right: People should vote with their feet. Not everyone wants the same thing. Some people want to live in walkable cities, all on top of each other. Where someone goes through your garbage to make sure you don't dump any recycling in it. Some people want to live in suburbs, and some people want to live in the country. I'm not sure what compels people to stay in places they hate, but moving house has created some of the most positive changes in my life -- each time I did it! 20 yr old me wanted to live above a bar. 40 yr old me wants to live in the woods. We aren't consistent even in one lifetime.

Like any "piece" from vox, it tells half truths and seeds dissention.

Some libertarians are built around the idea of white supremacy and racism. That was not the case with these libertarians. Most of the libertarians that I met were kind, decent people who would be generous with a neighbor in any given moment.

Not those "white supremacists" though, oh no, they're evil people. They'd never help anyone......

But in the abstract, when they’re at a town meeting, they will vote to hurt that neighbor by cutting off, say, support for road plowing.

Read that line. They will vote to hurt that neighbor. By cutting off "support" for road plowing.

What that means is that the person voting to "hurt" doesn't need road plowing or is willing to pay for it himself and that "support"? Well that's another person demanding that others pay for the snowplowing that neighbor needs.

Funny? EVERYTIME my neighbors want a new park, downtown improvements, a senior center or more school funding, no one is saying "hey, this hurts RMGoetbbels if we vote this way and that's just not decent". No one. No one ever.

I'll trade Jews and Niggers for bears any day.
