He took the Alamo away from The Daughters of The Republic of Texas, costing the state millions in court cases, that he lost, trying to get items that had been bought or donated to the DRT. Just so he could turn a Texas memorial to the defenders of the Alamo into a 'World Heritage Site' to be more inclusive and diverse.
Part of the reason was Phil Collins, the british musician, wanted to donate his multi-million $$ collection of Alamo relics to the State of Texas. BUT, only if it would be displayed in an 'appropriate' museum at the Alamo. And everything he donated would be accepted as genuine relics and not questioned of their authenticity. George P jumped on that rode rough-shod over anything that got in his way.
