We could make the world's least satisfying omelette! The eggs are similar in size to tictacs.

And only one calorie!

I know you joke but protect. Get you some humming bird friends. Mother fuckers imprint (In a way) and stick around knowing you have food if you have what they need around.

My resident hummingbird flies around our covered patio eating small flying insects.

Think she likes us...we replanted the backyard with a bunch of honeysuckles and other flowers.

They LOVE the banana blossoms! I hope they like honeysuckle, since we accidentally infested the whole front with that. Never see them going for those flowers, but it's not like we're watching at all times. They just FOR SURE really really like banana blossoms!

We already have, hence why they felt safe enough to put this nest right within easy reach. I've never seen one put in such a dumb spot; but it is visibly hidden from other birds and completely out of reach of cats. So they trust us. They come and buzz in front of our faces when we're doing gardening stuff. They're really pretty and funny critters. We probably have several nests in our jungle.

I have been trimming back a severely overgrown honeysuckle. Found a nest, hope I didn't launch anything from it.

Yikes! Fingers crossed!

There's some sort of flowering tree in our front yard where I think she renested.

That's flipping awesome. I have a water source that runs through my property, so my place has a bunch of different things coming through, but I feed all the birds where I'm located. I make suet cakes, two different locations for finches, Hummingbird solutions hanging plus flowers for them and then a free for all bird feeders (damn blackbirds and sparrows). I have yet to see a hummingbird nest although they are here mooching. All other types, but not those guys. I even got owls, falcons and eagles coming for all the squirrels and rabbits I have on the property. It's good and bad. The snake's populace is large too. I now have to protect my chickens, but it's a small price to pay for all the different wild life that comes through. FYI: Red Tailed Hawk isn't very good to eat but the feathers make for a nice homemade arrow. I watched the dumb fucker commit suicide into my garage. He tried to pull up in time but not quite and he broke his neck, poor fucker.

Holy shit, you saw a retarded hawk! We have Cooper's hawks every year here. They come in and build a nest in which to raise their young, feeding them bits of pigeons and squirrels mostly, I think. I hope they et all the squirrels. I hate those cute little bastards, wrecking my garden, burying nuts they'll never come back for! We worry about our chickens also, but they're not as dumb as they look. We've seen them hiding pretty well when they see or hear the hawks. They've intimidated and pecked the cats enough to be hypothetically safe from them; I just worry about the dog, because if they peck her in the face, she'll most likely respond angrily, and dogs accidentally kill chickens really easily in my experience... but that one was a rooster and he really had it coming.

I've got a tawny owl raising its young and graylag geese etc. To cold where I am for humming birds unfortunately. Two of my GSDs killed a whole flock of hens when they were pups but totally fine with the hens now but I agree the this could change if the got a peck to the face.

I love hummingbirds.
Just learned about how they enter Torpor every night instead of sleep.
They essentially enter hibernation so they don’t starve to death overnight.

Hilarious to see how they don’t shit in the nest either, they just arch their ass over the edge and squirt lol

Pigeons and chickens just shit all the time everywhere. Especially in their own nests.

We get ruby-throated hummingbirds in every year. Very playful and beautiful birds. It's fun to have them buzz around your head while you're outside working or relaxing.

We also built a feeder for baltimore orioles a few years back, and it took about a month to start attracting them. But they come back every year now! Really simple design; anyone with a small amount of fabrication experience can do it. They are also gorgeous, playful birds, but fairly noisy!

Yeah, I finally looked at that amazing mating dance you posted last week!

I haven't seen our guys do that; we have the boring stoic kind, maybe.
