The only way I have ever gotten jobs is by knowing people, and it's probably the only way I ever will. In my professional capacity, I know a lot of people. It only makes sense to go to them when I need a job. Nepotism, I guess. I haven't worked for my uncle in 15 years, lol
On second thought it's not nepotism. I know people that I respect that I think do good work, and some of them even think the same thing of me. It's just respect and the desire to work with people that you appreciate their work. you know in Office Space, at the end all the guys have jobs at Penetrode or whatever, and they're like "Peter, come on over"? It's like that.
My job has had an element of secrecy. I'm so fucked as nobody I worked with was in my field, they didn't understand what I did, and I only had a handful of regulars I talked to. So, when I'm out I'm on square 1 again.
See if any places you work do like job fairs. You can go to them, but it's not creepy like randomly showing up at their office. In that vein, a lot of places have recruiters that they pay to find people, so getting in touch with those recruiters directly is how I would handle it. It's not rude to find their email on linked in and send a resume because, like I say, it is their job.
I don't think anybody really cares if you burn bridges or ghost. Not if you're in a city. Any city less the 100k you may end up really fucking yourself by doing either.
They want you to feed in through the hiring funnel they created for you. In their minds, every step from job posting to hire is a meticulously engineered move to select the perfect candidate.
You walking in and dropping your balls on the table makes them not feel like they're in control.
There was actually a strange stage where they wanted you to submit all of that online, then show up in person to show that you were actually interested. Lower wage jobs anyway. World's kind of strange as it adapts to new tech.
What I find annoying is most jobs will ask you to submit a resume online. Then proceed to ask you to fill out an application with all the exact same information you just gave them on the resume. Or vice versa. At least it's been that way in my experience. I'm also not in any sort of white collar or skilled labor work. So maybe it's just a gutter trash job type of thing.
The tech that pulls information out of a resume and places it into a form costs a decent bit, not a fortune, but enough that places hiring for less then $30/hr would rather waist your time then burn through their cash.
Also, it's a method to see if you're desperate enough to jump through hoops to get the job. At least that's been my theory on that one. I really hate the fill out things in double.
I found by accident that if you fill those out up to and including the resume and cover letter attachment section, you can stop there. I have then been contacted by email anyway.
Oh, many, a lot. Like thirty to get one you want to see and move forward with. Mostly due to them improperly applying, or the system algorithms replying, however that works. Hired two. One lasted a year, he was weird. The second is still on board and she’s killin it!

I reworked my resume down to only one full page focusing on what I accomplished at my jobs, not the giant list of technical skills I see many programmers cram in their resume. I had only one full line for languages, one for databases, and one for other, so five lines total with the section header and empty line as spacing. I could have made this section the majority of the resume. Also, these lines should be reworked if necessary both for content and ordering for the job you are applying to. That is, if you are going for a Python job, it should be added or moved to the front of the list.
Cover letters are more important than the actual resume. It is required to be customized to the job listing. One thing I noticed is to parrot key statements in the job listing acknowledging that you actually read the listing and you are confident you have those desired hard and soft skills.
Always review the company's website looking for stupid things to write about in the cover letter. I know this can seem awkward at times because they know you are not sincere, but it does show you put effort into your application.
I would spend over a half hour on every application that was worthy of time. For shit-written applications or unlikely or undesirable ones, yeah, I would just send out my basic resume and barely customized cover letter.

Not me. Found my own work. Been lucky though. I would go check out a place . Go inside if I could , see if people were happy and if they were grubbing cigarettes. If they were grubbing I wouldn't work there Not enough money.
Yep, indeed has been good for me. I never use LinkedIn, but have my full resume on there also and have been contacted by multiple recruiters. Make sure your resume has a lot of key words in it.
