I read recently that in the UK new cars will have a monitor that will read speed limit signs, and connect to gps to keep the car from ever exceeding the speed limit.

Texan here, and it is bullshit. This warning doesn't say which grid or which residents are impacted. Texas has multiple, largely independent grids. I went to look for the news to see if I was impacted and got nuttin'. If they aren't saying who it is that should change their thermostats then it's not-serious at best and FUD at worst.

Even with the outside temp below 10F at night and barely 20F during the day, our house never got below 50F. It's on a concrete slab. Our neighbors (that we speak to) said their house was under 30F and had some of their water pipes break and damaged their homes when it thawed.

Our daughter and granddaughters all live 10-20 miles away never lost power.

We did have the water trickle, but when we lost power the city water pumps were off for 5 days. Then when they turned the pumps on again some of the water mains were frozen and burst.
