Part of the problem is the right doesn't stand by good principles enough. The more principled thing to have done would be to have never let the government take part in a religious institution such as marriage because it should have been obvious they would corrupt it eventually.

Also, tne left uses movements for peace as a way of shutting down wars that they don't like, such as a war against a communist enemy.
And they use movements for equality as a means of ending the dominance of a group they have no use for, for one that could be of use to them in their quest for the seizure, maintenence, usage, and expansion of power.
They hate wars until its a war against someone that is an obstacle to their cult's quest to conquer the world. Then they become the greatest warmomgers you'd ever see.
They hate discrimination unless the group being discriminated against is one which is less symptomatic to their jihadic cause of world conquest, then they want the most oppressive and expansive system of discrimination that they could get against this group (whites, men, heterosexuals, Christians, the healthy, the successful, etc).
