Is there really going to be a food shortage and what steps are you taking? How long do you think it will last?

submitted by Videocodec to whatever 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 10:06:40 ago (+30/-0)     (whatever)

I have extra can goods, rice and pasta. Live in a city so no land to grow anything that wont be stolen. Just wondering about better steps to take.

There's too much garbage food available. I doubt food will run out entirely. It will just get more expensive.

[ - ] Splooge 4 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 15:44:32 ago (+4/-0)

About 40% of all food produced is tossed for various reasons, sometimes arbitrarily depending on (((regulatory))) whims.

Take that for what it's worth -- I'm certainly not advocating against preparedness in any case.

I get made fun of for shopping at the "ghetto" grocery store, but there's always an abundance of healthy food and it's the junk that runs out.

How does most food get to the grocery store, and how much is diesel right now? Does it seem like our government wants its citizens to prosper, or does it seem like they want us to suffer?

They will cause the problem then magically be the solution.

And just like the fake plandemic normies will forget who started it the same day they claim to have the solution.

While calling the people that remember the crime against humanity terrorists.

[ - ] Flabbygasted 0 points 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 09:42:59 ago (+0/-0)

Eventually though they are gonna want a solution to their biggest problem...White people. Which I could see them resort to food shortages...

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 22:55:29 ago (+1/-0)

Diesel is about to get rationed on the east coast. An even bigger problem is there is already a shortage developing of DEF. The American holodomor IS going to happen because they want it to happen and are causing it to happen. Coping and hoping will not cut it for anybody who wants to survive.

[ - ] Flabbygasted 0 points 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 09:41:45 ago (+0/-0)

Yep, I'm stocking up as much as I can. Seems like their plan is right on schedule.

[ - ] patchCodeUnsuccessful 12 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 10:45:02 ago (+12/-0)

Food shortage, yes.

Length of time : minimum 3 years. Probably going to be closer to 10 years.
3 years if the war ends tomorrow. Fields in Ukraine will yield near 0% this year and will be substantially hampered next year if everything went perfectly. Bombed out and destroyed food infrastructure doesn't just pop back up over night.
10 years will probably be the case as we're dragging out this war to fuck with russia. At some point they'll destroy Ukraine's ports. Fertilizer production will be hampered for a very long time, shortages in the storage capacity will keep demand high as everybody tries to restock when everything comes back online. Shit's going to get fucked.

Steps to mitigate personal damage.
1.) Growing potatoes, carrots, lettuce, onions, etc. (LED lighting is amazing for nursery)
2.) Learning Canning and stocking up on required supplies
3.) Grabbing a year supply of vitamins
4.) Grabbing 3 months worth of calories in cane sugar

These are actions I'm taking on top of my 2 month of supplies in the pantry. I'm actually hoping I'm going quite overboard and have just picked up some cool new hobbies, but shit costing too much and I can't afford everything I've worked towards is a situation I don't want to deal with.

FYI : the US is the most food secure right now, doesn't mean we're not selling to everybody else right now and that the government is going to give a shit and shut down the exports to keep people from starving.

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 9 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 11:14:29 ago (+9/-0)

Gonna recommend olive oil over sugar for calories. Otherwise, great advice.

[ - ] totes_magotes 9 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 12:13:55 ago (+9/-0)

Refined sugar has an infinite shelf life if kept properly sealed and stored. Oil goes rancid after a year or so.

[ - ] MelGibson 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 12:51:14 ago (+1/-0)

Oil going rancid only affects taste and smell. You can still consume it if it means starving or not.

[ - ] Pasty 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 15:51:37 ago (+1/-0)

Plus you can use rancid oil as torch fuel and not even bother with eating it.

[ - ] CunnilingusAndPsychiatry 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:17:43 ago (+0/-0)

With rancid oil, enjoy a leaky ass.

[ - ] patchCodeUnsuccessful 5 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 12:31:00 ago (+5/-0)

Olive oil is excellent advise.
I went with sugar because of the shelf life. But, as far as nutritional good for you stuff in your food excellent choice NSW.

[ - ] Autismo 3 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 14:36:09 ago (+3/-0)

3.) Grabbing a year supply of vitamins

Years. Think 5 years.

And you need to buy tubs of sodium, potassium, and magnesium powder. Fish oil (EHA/DHA). And essential amino acids.

[ - ] MaryXmas 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:00:35 ago (+1/-0)

What amino acids are you familiar with?

[ - ] TerryB 2 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 16:30:42 ago (+2/-0)

Also -- I suggest you learn to forage your local habitat. Lots of forager groups on Faceburg to show you what you can eat and stuff. This is a great way to substitute vitamins, minerals. You can also dry greens out for winter consumption.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 23:38:03 ago (+0/-0)

I'm only maybe a step ahead of you on that journey. Probably the best tip I've seen is don't mess with the recipes. You have to have time to experiment with them and see if they'll keep your food tasting ok for several years. Don't exactly have time for that right now.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 2 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 23:37:02 ago (+2/-0)

I've been learning to can and found it's much easier than I thought it would be. If your not a retarded nigger and can follow directions you too will be pleasantly surprised.

https://www.qwant.com/?q=canning+food&client=opensearch&t=web

It's best to have a hard copy to reference. Many cheap canning books/booklets are readily available.

You also need equipment. The first thing you need to get is one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Presto-01781-23-Quart-Pressure-Canner/dp/B0000BYCFU/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=canner&link_code=qs&qid=1651892403&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sr=8-2. I have two of them. Don't fuck around; get one NOW. (The price has already gone up $60 since I bought my last one a few years ago.)

They are a proven design that has been around for decades. You do not need electricity to power them, and can use them on a kitchen stove, a gas grill, a charcoal grill, a wood fire, etc. They come with an instruction book (or at least mine did). Read the instruction and learn the process.

WARNING: These things will literally blow up if you are retarded and don't monitor them when using.

Another thing you will want to get is a canner (though the aforementioned presser cooker can be used as a canner.) Canners are used for hot water bath canning which is different than pressure canning. This looks like a great starter kit: https://www.amazon.com/Granite-Ware-Canning-8-Piece-Black/dp/B00BZLJX60/ref=sr_1_5?crid=KXW3N6AP4ZFQ&keywords=canner&qid=1651894021&sprefix=canner%2Caps%2C196&sr=8-5&th=1.

Pressure canning and water bath canning are not the same. With certain foods you can use either, but for other foods you have to use one or the other. For example, you will ruin cucumber pickles if you use a pressure cooker. (Ask me how I ruined 48 quarts of pickles one year.)

Next you need jars, bands, and especially lids. Widemouth canning jars (pint/quart) is where you should start. You can also get regular mouth, which are stronger, but you will end up with more work depending on what you are canning. As far as lids go, don't buy some chinese shit or off brand unless it has a lot of good reviews. I stick with Kerr and Ball brands. Lids are not supposed to be reusable, but if you know what to look for (re: experience) you can reuse them a number of times. Tattler makes reusable lids, and gets good reviews. (I have not tried them yet.)

Jars can be reused many times if you don't abuse them. The key is to keep the sealing surface on top of the jar clean, smooth, and not chipped. Bands can be reused until they rust too much. A trick to make bands last longer is to take them off the jar of product after it has cooled and sealed. The canning lid should remain sealed to the jar. Cap the jar with a plastic lid like these: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=plastic+jar+lids&link_code=qs&sourceid=Mozilla-search&tag=moz-us-20 and then store the jar.

You can preserve ready to eat meals like stews, chili, spaghetti, etc. in jars. The more acidic the food (i.e. high tomato content), and the hotter the spice (i.e chili powder, hot peppers) the more likely it is to last. I have canned chili (with hamburger) from 4 or 5 years ago that I wouldn't hesitate to eat (unless I see that it is rancid). Pre-made foods like this are also much more convenient when it comes time to eat them. They are essentially pre-cooked due to the canning process, so you can eat them right out the jar (unheated) if need be.

One last thing because I'm getting tired of writing: You can preserve stuff you buy from grocery stores; it doesn't have to come from a garden. Get yourself set up with the right equipment and start canning stuff — NOW!

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 1 point 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 13:17:53 ago (+1/-0)

Far from an expert; I'm still learning. The key is to get started with something you already like to eat and then stick with it enough to learn. It actually becomes easier the more you do it.

[ - ] MaryXmas 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 18:47:00 ago (+1/-0)

Canning kills all the bacteria in the process. Look into fermenting. That is what everyone had in the colonial days.

[ - ] AryanPrime 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 16:05:01 ago (+0/-0)

of course they are trying for a 2.0...they are well aware that their narrative is being exposed, once it's gone all sympathy for them goes to which will result in a chain reaction of events which will effectively defeat them.

Their entire "globalist" nonsense relies on the holohoax narrative for "ultimate victim status" at the top of the victim pyramid, without that spot their plans fall to shit

Not sure if you are trying to actually say i'm a kike which is hilarious given my post history of calling out khazarians and their tricks. If you are then kindly fuck off

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 7 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 11:08:15 ago (+7/-0)

I bought a couple months worth of canned and dry food recently. Chili, green beans, ramen, rice, nuts, and jerkey. Feels like I need another veggie but canned corn and peas don't do it for me. Got a buddy moving to an 8 acre homestead a few hour drive from the nearest city, my backup plan is to run to his place with my guns and food.

I have a year's worth of food stocked up. Been stocking that for the last 6 years because I saw all of this coming in some measure or another.

I have a 1600 square foot garden planted to the gills for the neighbors so that if they get desperate, they have food. If they get desperate, they'll raid the garden and not my house. If they aren't desperate, I'll have more food than I will rightly know what to do with for the next 2 years.

[ - ] NaturalSelectionistWorker 2 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 13:10:34 ago (+2/-0)

Make friends with guns who will help defend your garden.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 1 point 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 00:06:35 ago (+1/-0)

My garden is 2850 square feet. I just staked it out tonight for my vegetable rows. Tomorrow I put in the onions (4 rows/37' long/6" spacing). When it warms up enough I'll put in the taters, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet corn, peas, and radishes.

As far as my neighbors go, they can fuck themselves. I've warned them for years about what is coming, but they're all too busy consooming and being mesmerized by jew media.

[ - ] totes_magotes 1 point 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 05:12:23 ago (+1/-0)

That's a really great way for them to feel they have the right to steal your garden, especially since, you know, you knew it was coming and have some kind of special knowledge or, worse, was in on it from the start. And that's exactly what they'll say and how they'll act. You should have kept your mouth shut or will need to "buy" them off now.

It's either that or you treat them like useful neighbors who are your cannon fodder.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 1 point 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 05:37:27 ago (+1/-0)

From what I know of people — and their arrested development immaturity — they already think they have a right to my garden and other preps. I've had neighbors in the past take it upon themselves to harvest my produce because "Why not?". "I have plenty." I've repeatedly told my neighbors to garden, store food, and otherwise prepare. I've even offered to help teach them how to garden. But no, they are too busy with distraction and consooming. These people are parasites and I have no qualms about eradicating them same as I do any other garden pest.

I was just talking to a guy yesterday about prepping. He was very frustrated with his friends because he has been repeatedly telling them to prepare for a food shortage. He said that earlier in the week one of them said they aren't going to stock up and will simply come to him when they need food. He looked that person straight in the eye and told him that he will kill him if they come around.

It's either that or you treat them like useful neighbors who are your cannon fodder.

LOL; that's like saying if I treat a nigger like a White he will become a brain surgeon. Your neighbors are not going to suddenly 'come around' and be useful — that is wishful thinking. They will take from you because they feel justified and empowered — especially since you are an enabler.

No, we're in The Cullingâ„¢, and I will have to do my part for a better tomorrow. Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you. I am prepared either way.

[ - ] totes_magotes 1 point 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 07:00:56 ago (+1/-0)

they already think they have a right to my garden and other preps

The fact that you haven't put this together with emotional manipulation to compel them to protect it in your interest means you need to think a little more.

I've had neighbors in the past take it upon themselves to harvest my produce because "Why not?". "I have plenty."

If they invited themselves and you did not involve either a gun or police, it's your own fucking fault. If your neighbors aren't the good kind, you either move, make them move, or force them to be good neighbors.

I've repeatedly told

You said it yourself: They're immature. People will not prepare for something when they think it won't happen or when they feel like someone will take care of them. And since you never put a stop to their theft properly in the first place, your work will always be there for them to steal. Even if these are different neighbors, you never changed yourself and animals can smell that. This is all your fault, not theirs. Your land, you protect it. You failed to do that.

I've even offered to help teach them how to garden.

Again, why should they do that when they know there is no consequence for violating your domain and stealing your food?

I was just talking to a guy yesterday about prepping. He was very frustrated with his friends because he has been repeatedly telling them to prepare for a food shortage.

This is your prepping tribe partner. Keep him close.

LOL; that's like saying if I treat a nigger like a White he will become a brain surgeon.

No. You tempt them with free shit in exchange for keeping an eye out, coming to you with information. "If you want food, you'll guard my garden a couple days a week. Keep an eye on it." and the first time he fails, the deal is off. You shoot to kill the next time. All animals can be trained. Even dogs can be trained to sacrifice their own lives to protect you. These are animals; treat them as such and train them.

Your neighbors are not going to suddenly 'come around' and be useful

I've already done so. They have and are.

No, we're in The Culling

Not yet. Only close.

I will have to do my part for a better tomorrow

You have done nothing of the kind except make yourself a target for their better tomorrow.

The first prep is fitness. The second is knowledge. The third is community.

[ - ] FalseRealityCheck 0 points 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 23:48:49 ago (+0/-0)

The fact that you haven't put this together with emotional manipulation to compel them to protect it in your interest means you need to think a little more.

LOL; I have to live in the real world. These animals are going to do nothing to protect what is mine because they are incapable of doing anything but consoom.

If they invited themselves and you did not involve either a gun or police, it's your own fucking fault.

Why would I involve ZOGbots when I can handle it myself? Because my neighbors couldn't respect me they now live in fear of me. I hear through the community grapevine that they are afraid of me. The adult children of one of my neighbors have all become exceedingly polite to me when I encounter them. (I have nothing against them, because they've done nothing to earn my wrath.)

If your neighbors aren't the good kind, you either move, make them move, or force them to be good neighbors.

I already told two of them (the worst ones) to move because I run the neighborhood. (Yes, those were my exact words.) One is a retarded leftard woman who repeatedly broke down in tears as I put her in her place. Neither can actually move, however, because they're such good consoomers that they are too far in debt to GTFO.

And since you never put a stop to their theft properly in the first place...

I never wrote that. Are you drinking or something?

...your work will always be there for them to steal.

They can try. That is if they're stupid enough to try again.

...you never changed yourself and animals can smell that.

I am the Alpha. And as the dominant one I give other entities a chance to prove they are human. When they fail — as most do — they then get treated like animals, demons, or whatever sundry parasitic organism they have choosen to exist. And the same way I have learned to show dominance over animals I have shown these things who is in charge.

This is all your fault, not theirs. Your land, you protect it. You failed to do that.

Seriously dude: Have you been drinking or doping?

Again, why should they do that when they know there is no consequence for violating your domain and stealing your food?

What the fuck are you talking about?

This is your prepping tribe partner. Keep him close.

No shit; that's the first thing you're written that is based on reality.

No. You tempt them with free shit in exchange for keeping an eye out, coming to you with information. "If you want food, you'll guard my garden a couple days a week. Keep an eye on it." and the first time he fails, the deal is off.

LOL; I think you've watched too many jewish TV shows and movies. Deals are made with humans who have value to offer. Animals are to be used or disposed of as I see fit.

You shoot to kill the next time.

Whoah; we're not at that stage yet. All in due time...all in due time.

All animals can be trained. Even dogs can be trained to sacrifice their own lives to protect you. These are animals; treat them as such and train them.

Now you're starting to make sense. And by the way, not all animals can be trained — some have to be destroyed. I speak from personal experience.

You have done nothing of the kind except make yourself a target for their better tomorrow.

Seriously; are you loaded or having some kind of mental breakdown episode? I really don't know where you're coming up with this shit.

The first prep is fitness. The second is knowledge. The third is community.

#2 Mental
#3 Emotional
#4 Physical
#5 Other individuals
#6 Community

[ - ] Cantaloupe 4 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 11:07:16 ago (+4/-0)*

Even if you hoard food it can be stolen via a break-in.

There's expected to be a 30% increase in food cost in the US.

For EU to be viable it needs 8% growth, it has -1% growth. Pensions will be destroyed, so start a war with Russia (2023) and blame them for the collapse.

If there is something you use that keeps for years and is small. That you don't want to pay more for. Then buy it now. Like olive oil, bags of rice, pasta.

Read about foraging. You can forage vitamins just don't let people see what you are eating, and avoid ticks.

The food shortage will be an economic one in the west, and real if you're not in the west.

The best thing to grow is probably going to be cash crops to make food more interesting.

We won't be seeing staples like potatoes, bread, corn etc become prohibitively expensive though there is likely to be a bit of a price bump.

Meat is likely to spike for a bit, but it will remain manageable.

And yea, you can grow your own staples, but you will get more potatoes per hour just working and buying than tilling the land.

Resilience never hurts to protect against panic tho

I say it's likely. Maybe not an actual famine, my bet is the good protein sources will become ridiculously expensive or unobtainium. Moishe Shekelstein's 100% soy bug falvored nigger chow will be plentiful, but forget about meat, eggs and cheese. They're trying hard to get whites off meat. Member those government letters somewhere in USA commanding farmers to kill the entirety of their herds because of fucking covid?

The thing to consider is if it gets really bad, people will kill for food and water. We aren't much different from medieval and ancient times when this shit occurred.

Buy MREs in bulk. Remember the Great Depression? It could last a decade when they crash the Western financial system. Russia/China will probably be okay as long as nukes don't start flying.

[ - ] totes_magotes 1 point 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 12:16:02 ago (+1/-0)

MRE's are shit and only last 3 to 5 years, made and packaged by the lowest bidder. Further, you cannot legally sell official MREs. You can buy them if you can find them. Nearly 100% of what you find is not official MRE meals but made by another company to be like MREs.

Plus you'll get really constipated eating just mre. If you have to keep some oatmeal or fiber on hand

So you're gonna go live in the woods, off the land and hunt, huh?

If there's a collapse scenario, the entire east coast will be hunted of all animals worth eating within 3 weeks.

You're going to have a hell of a time foraging. I hope you've learned the universal edibility test, how to hunt and skin/clean an animal and then how to smoke it without drawing attention to yourself.

This here is a fool who's gonna die within the first month of running.

lololol, the entirety of the east coast will be hunted dry within 3 weeks if there's a complete collapse. The rest of the US won't do much better. But good luck with that.

What's this

[ - ] RecycledElectrons 0 points 2 yearsMay 7, 2022 04:31:23 ago (+0/-0)

Food shortages would mean high prices and limited availability. The availability would vary form day to day and from hour to hour. It would be different at every store.

To prepare, make a list of the foods and drinks you regularly consume that can be stored in a room-temperature pantry. Buy enough that if you buy any more they will go bad before you get to eat or drink them.

In a real food shortage, you will be able to buy some food to supplement what you have stored. Some foods will be almost unobtainable for months at a time.

There's too much food that'll last forever, PLUS you can rely on being fat.

[ - ] MaryXmas 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 16:41:51 ago (+0/-0)

Everyone started making masks and chipping in as soon as covid started. I think people across the country would sprout a garden to chip in. I have 64 sq feet in my garden and I pull out 30 pounds of cuces, 30 pounds of tomatoes, 30 pounds of carrots + squash too. I think a food crises would be a good thing for the country. Ya can't grow taco bell in your garden, that is grown in a lab.

Fun fact

You are all talking about foraging while our society has hidden from us, literal technology that can cause the manifestation of matter from the ether

translation...we have replicator "tech" like in star trek...not as "advanced" but it can manifest component raw/pure elemental molecules...you guys really don't know just how far into the "future" we should be living right now...

No there's not going to be a food shortage.

[ - ] letsgetit 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 12:03:39 ago (+0/-0)

If there is a shortage; the poor and paycheck to paycheck peeps will suffer the worst from it. Preppers will weather it fine unless its an extremely long shortage.

Most of the plants that have been set on fire lately have been food processing plants. Garbage food.

The biggest concern is probably fertilizer, but the Russia/Ukraine conflict will probably wrap up sooner than expected. It's doubtful Russia will take the entire Ukraine, it looks like they are just segmenting off a chunk in Eastern Ukraine and then there will be peace talks or ceasefire.

[ - ] GoldenAgeWhen 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 11:32:16 ago (+0/-0)

I think it is mostly going to be price hikes, not scarcity. At the very worst the US has tons of industrial / feed corn and soy, so there won't be a famine in the US unless farmers don't plant or harvest (currently we put a lot of calories into our gas tanks).

That said, the way the rulers work is to make things come in waves. We had a big wave at the start of "covid" and then a smaller one, right now things are fine with only price hikes, but who knows for how long. What i'm trying to say is that I don't think this year will be a bad year, but in the next 20 years we will see some shit, and having food on hand isn't the worst idea.

[ - ] AugustineOfHippo2 0 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 11:22:08 ago (+0/-0)

If there will be a food shortage, the supply of wheat or other grains will be used up by necessary items and things like donuts and chips will disappear. Prices will go up, but I think basic stuff like plain bread or raw meat would still be available. Also, lots of people are starting their own gardens this year, and while many of those won't be too successful at growing their own food, a good bunch will.
If you live in the city, look up the local farmers market and find a CSA to work with.

[ - ] yesiknow -1 points 2 yearsMay 6, 2022 14:00:54 ago (+0/-1)

Like people might go back to eating meals prepared from staples. Thre's some form al protein, carbs and vegetables to dish up. As soon as Schwab starts trying to sell insects the WEF gets taken out and everyone in it. It wouldn't take a very large crowd to do that.
