It's too late to start trying to get more fertilizer. As it gets hotter, fertilizers will burn crops. By mid to end of May, applications of fertilizer will do nothing to increase yields.

What a load of shit — literally. Farmers/ranchers are already putting manure on their land. They have to get rid of it someplace. The problem is that manure doesn't come close to delivering the nutrients that plants crave. (Yeah, I know....)

Manure is much better for the soil and the plants produce more nutritious food, but the yield that can be garnered from using it is down considerably — and to a farmer swimming in debt (which most are), yield is critical.

Moreover, we are supposed to quit eating meat. Where is the "natural replacement" for fertilizer then going to come from?

Using processed manure as fertilizer instead of importing it isn't a bad idea, though often it's not processed enough. Expect an uptick in food poisoning this year.
