The platform is solid, there is a reason it has been ubiquitous within american gun culture for more then a century. The gunsmiths of yester year took care and precision in fit and finish of these old girls, the modern manufacturing process leaves much to be desired however. I have seen about a dozen kimber customs shop 1911s that the feed ramp geometry is beyond fucked, to the point where it won't feed anything not 230 ball. And I have seen tons of old clapped out GI models that still run anything and everything all day. Read about the original tests of the platform, truly a monumental firearm that may be old, but all the modern polymer pistols owe another of their design to it.
Be it from a glock to a 1911, from a H&k to yes, even a few Tarus, as long as the fitment is there and the firearm is properly maintained and lubricated you can trust your life to it. But not hi points, throw that shit in the trash.

Never had an issue with one. 230 grain FMJ to 185 grain wad cutter hollow points. Polish the ramp and a mil spec will eat whatever it's fed. Nothing wrong with the caliber either. My Thompson does thirty round clips without a hickup. Hell even a highpoint eats ammo without issue.

Mag or "clip"...you do know the difference right? All my 1911s have mags.

Flip or a fag. My guess is that you are a fag.

"But muh break in period!"

"You're using bad mags!"

"Your 1911 isn't a $3,000+ Wilson Combat or Debauer"

".45 is the Lord's caliber"

...and on and on.

I've got a couple 1911s, and they are the last pistols I'd ever trust my life with. They're novelties that I wanted to like.

You forgot "You don't need more than 8 rounds if you shoot well"

[ - ] Teefinyomouf 1 point 3 yearsMay 2, 2022 13:28:28 ago (+1/-0)

8 rounds is merely theoretical, assuming no jams.

“Won TWO world wars!”
Not my favorite but I like them.

Guys; just buy Hi-Point. They are cheap, reliable, ugly and when you run out of rounds you can wield it like a cave man club.

I have a C9 and I’ve run a thousand rounds through it with no hiccups, no cleaning, and no oiling. One thousand rounds with zero maintenance. Can’t say that about many guns.

The biggest problem with the 1911 is that it's too tight a design. It's arguably too accurate for a pistol, which is why target shooters swear by them, but it doesn't really matter if it makes a 2" circle at 100 yards or 5". That's not the range you'd need to use it at. But keep it clean and lubed and if it was manufactured to decent tolerances it'll work.

(The round is another issue, it's large and heavy but very slow. I'm more fond of best mm.

You are kidding? A mil Spec .45 can be dropped in the dirt and still fire. It rattles.

[ - ] o0shad0o 0 points 3 yearsMay 3, 2022 16:07:30 ago (+0/-0)

IDK, I've never run into a new manufacture 1911, even the cheap ones, that's not really tight. (Probably because those target shooters, who are the biggest market, want it that way so they can modify as they want.) You can always loosen tolerances but doing so without knowing what you're doing is a really bad idea.

Yup. It’s tolerance are tight! Great for competition shooting, but you have to clean them regularly. The manufacturer has a lot to do with them being reliable or not.

It was an impressive gun 100 years ago.

[ - ] 1Icemonkey 0 points 3 yearsMay 3, 2022 21:01:56 ago (+0/-0)

I suppose John Moses Browning's other top design, the Hi Power, is a piece of shit as well.

All you’ve ever done is make fun of what I own, yet you have never posted a pic of anything you own. Come on man, let’s see some photos. What you got?

[ - ] HeyJames 0 points 3 yearsMay 2, 2022 08:15:42 ago (+0/-0)

Anything not made by H&K is absolute trash.

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 0 points 3 yearsMay 2, 2022 09:49:51 ago (+0/-0)

Glock isn't made by H&K

[ - ] HeyJames 1 point 3 yearsMay 2, 2022 10:00:09 ago (+1/-0)

Glocks work good but the ergonomics are trash

[ - ] 1Icemonkey 0 points 3 yearsMay 3, 2022 20:53:37 ago (+1/-1)

That’s opinion, not fact. A lot of folks don’t like a Glock grip angle. A lot of folks don’t care for 1911 grip angle. And so on. Almost every company make s a good gun. HK, Ruger, whatever. Arguing guns is juvenile. Mine is better than yours arguments are again, juvenile.

[ - ] HeyJames 0 points 3 yearsMay 4, 2022 00:20:25 ago (+0/-0)

That's not true. Taurus is junk and nobody can argue that. There are no good Taurus guns.
