It has an elephant and is fueled by Diet Shasta.

God likes elephants.

TempleOS is an inside joke; a pet project by a super smart crazy dude. It is useless though.

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 1 point 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 23:11:45 ago (+1/-0)

It still has an actively developed fork

Linux does look more cucked everyday. I spend the last couple years learning Linux and now considering FreeBSD. Problem is; that will just be "their" next target.

[ - ] MuricaPersonified 0 points 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 21:45:46 ago (+0/-0)

FreeBSD is already cucked. Thankfully there is a better selection of quality forks nowadays.

[ - ] JustALover 0 points 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 03:02:31 ago (+0/-0)

FreeBSD is equally cucked. They have a code of conduct written by a tranny.

Well, I'm no expert either, but it's incredible what he achieved in the short time span in which he did it. On the other hand, his work was essentially obsolete before he began. God telling him notwithstanding.

Jewpedia:

TempleOS (formerly J Operating System, LoseThos, and SparrowOS) is a biblical-themed lightweight operating system (OS) designed to be the Third Temple prophesied in the Bible. It was created by American programmer Terry A. Davis, who developed it alone over the course of a decade after a series of manic episodes that he later described as a revelation from God.

The system was characterized as a modern x86-64 Commodore 64, using an interface similar to a mixture of DOS and Turbo C. Davis proclaimed that the system's features, such as its 640x480 resolution, 16-color display, and single-voice audio, were designed according to explicit instructions from God. It was programmed with an original variation of C (named HolyC) in place of BASIC, and included an original flight simulator, compiler and kernel.

The dude wrote his own compiler. Very few people can do that. That alone is impressive.

[ - ] x0x7 1 point 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 23:58:20 ago (+1/-0)

If you go with Temple OS go with a fork that's being maintained by an actually based team. ZealOS/ZenithOS is the version to use.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 00:03:16 ago (+0/-0)

Holy shart! ZenithOS has a networking stack!

I should install it on my laptop!!

[ - ] x0x7 1 point 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 11:20:55 ago (+1/-0)

The network part is pretty bad. I've chatted with the person who developed it. He will be the first to say that. If you have the means to help him on that / improve it, that would be awesome.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 1 point 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 17:40:01 ago (+1/-0)*

440Hz 'A' tuning changed to 432Hz.

Interesting that they would change that, I am thinking that Terry would not approve.

Next I want to make a Media Box. Something to load all my MP3's and Entertainment on. Do you have a video card recommendation?

[ - ] beece 0 points 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 19:35:01 ago (+0/-0)

Can't you just use a regular computer and the program VLC onto an external hard drive and use the computer you just converted?

[ - ] albatrosv15 0 points 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 02:46:37 ago (+0/-0)

There will never be a year for linux desktop, cause most people are illiterate faggots, who will never install os on their own after they bought the hardware. And shops are money junkies, who will always buy comps with preinstalled winblows.

[ - ] uvulectomy 7 points 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 15:08:13 ago (+7/-0)

Be very, very careful with Timeshift (basically a front-end for doing backups with rsync). It does zero sanity checking and will happily eat all of your space taking a snapshot regardless of whether or not there's room to do so.

Ask me how I know this, lol.

Will Do. I wanted to load Mint, Gallium is designed to replace ChromeOS.

[ - ] asdf23 2 points 3.1 yearsMay 1, 2022 00:49:56 ago (+2/-0)

Listen dude.. Here's what is going to happen most likely...

1) you get an old piece of shit machine thinking linux will breath new life into this piece of shit. Just don't fucking start here

2) I'll dual boot - hard as shit to set up. You dual boot once open up Firefox browse one site say, this is easy. Then realize your files and games are else where and never return into linux again.

3) same goes for a VM

4) boot into linux having nothing to do realize that you really don't use a PC that much.

5) use wine

Don't fucking do any of the above. Get a purpose first. E.g. I want to record TV. I want to make a website. NOT I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO PROGRAM AND MAKE A WEBSITE.

Get a clear purpose obtainable by you. Then start. Good machine 100% dedicated to linux - yes that includes the hard drive. Your goddamn files, pictures tax documents go elsewhere first. Then new installation on a dedicated box.

Good luck. After hundreds of tries, my switch finally stuck in Dec of 2019 with Manjaro. I've had to boot back into Win7 3 times to use one piece of software that won't run in WINE and isn't worth the effort to set up a virtual machine for.

Been screwing around with Linux for at least a couple years now. When I retire XP Pro, and move on to Win7, I'll have MX Linux installed on the spare HDD. I'll still be using Kodachi Linux & TAILS for DarkNet safaris, and Linux Lite in LiveCD mode (because I favor 'no persistence').

I test drove over twenty distros, and most were not ready for prime time (or Windows expats). MX Linux was the pick of the litter. Followed by Linux Lite, Linux Mint, AntiX, and Solus.

Good for you Red. Back up all your data and mount it as a separate drive so you can always refer back to that data. At the very least, keep it separate. Down the line you will realize that you forgot to copy over something.

Back in the day I used FreeBSD for a home grown NAS but that was easily 10-15 years ago. Not sure what it is like now but that taught me a lot too. Use VirtualBox to test drive other distros until you find the one you love. I use mint but it's not for everyone, it is Debian based which a lot of companies are going to. In the Data Center space it's pretty much all Red Hat. Funny though that I was a Windows Admin but an opportunity popped up and I moved over to Linux Admin a few years ago. It's glorious that I don't have to deal with shitty Windows anymore.

DM me if you run into issues, be glad to help you out.

I switched full time over Christmas. I kept Win10 as dual-boot because I've tried making Linux my daily driver before and it always had fallen short. But I've booted Win10 2 times and that was to play Resident Evil, but since a Proton update last month RE runs fine now.

2022 is literally the year that Linux became a legitimate contender for the desktop. If you play multiplayer games it's probably not there yet due to anti-cheating software running on the servers, but headway is being made there too. And if you have a VR headset fugetabouit.

you must not have used Linux in any recent time frame.

[ - ] ThisGuy 2 points 3.1 yearsApr 30, 2022 17:30:41 ago (+2/-0)

Linux is easier than Windows by far as general usage and peripheral support goes. Need a specific windows app, then no. But beyond that it's far superior.
